There was a story about some woman from Florida that wants to ban the term "illegal alien" because it makes the immigrants looked on as second class and it's inhumane.

Now I know some of you will go "Oh Hell Bill O'Reilly, idiot, yada yada, conservative, slanted to the right" and all that but seriously this is ridiclious.

Seeing stories like this discourage me about how soft and PC America is becomming. Everyone wants to make everyone happy and beat around the truth of the matter. This reminds me of George Carlin standup act where he talks about "Shell Shock" (a disorder you get after being at war) turning into "Post Tramatic Stress Disorder".

I don't mind immigrants I just want them to be legal and tax paying. O'Reilly brought up great points about this and I agreed with about everything he said.

So what do you all think?

Stupidest thing I have ever heard. They come to America illegally. They are not citizens therefore they are aliens... See where I am going with this? The term fits

Thats what I'm saying.....America has a problem with cut and dry calling something what it is. Terms we use have to have this soft comfortable feeling.

Buisness, it should be our objective to accommodate to their sensitivity.. We should never intend to hurt people's feelings who aren't even legal citizens to our own country. Come on now..

I know what your saying. Theres no reason to be mean to someone but the term is not mean. It's not mean spirited, It simply says they are not legally here and they being of a forigen nation. I think it's more of a case of some woman in a hispanic heavy community ensuring votes for next term. I don't know all the facts but thats what it smells like.

Also if they are here without papers we don't have to accommodate a **** thing for them. Like I said I have no problem with tax paying legal immigrants.

I hate PC bullcrap. They're here illegally - that covers the word "illegal". They are not from this nation - that covers the word "alien". What's the problem?

I'm short, fat and bald -- people tell me that all the time. Where's my Congressman(woman) trying to ban those words...:)

wow, i wonder if they are going to outlaw the word terrorist. im sure that word hurts feelings. maybe instead of calling the (things) that flew the planes into the WTC and the Pentagon terrorists, maybe we should call them low down, sorry, guttless pigs. do you think that would be more appropriate? maybe all these politicians in this country who seem to love the ILLEGAL "S so much sould move on down south of the border.

It would be a lot more accurate and appropriate than calling them Iraqis, that's for sure.

How about Middle Easterners who tend to be extremist and supported heavily with gov't oil money?

I think we need to start calling those who employ them Illegal Americans. So many patriotic flag waving types out there are quick to scream crime but yet have no issue making some money off of the crime.

that woman is an idiot. as far as the illegal aliens are concerned, i have mixed emotions about them. back home in lebanon last year they had a 8 figure drug bust if i'm not mistaken, and who got busted you might ask? our friends from south of the border. also seems like they get a little antsy and like to murder a lot as well as rape. i mean i know every race does this, but lately it is like i hear more and more about the sanchez's of the world doing this

IMO "Illegal immigrant" is something of a misnomer since the word "immigrate" carries a connotation of some intention to remain or assimilate into the new place. Of the few illegals that I have discussed the matter with, most of them seem to have a long range plan of getting back to their country of origin with a stack of money that would represent a small fortune back home. I'm in agreement that we should have a more liberal guest worker program with some kind of background screening.

I think Illegal Alien is accurate. We do take PC way too far in our country now. I thought the First Amendment was all about elminating the notion of "Banned" words and ideas.

That said, I can't watch O'Reilly. He just bases so many of his arguments on factually incorrect premises (and makes no attempt to correct past mistakes). I don't hate him, but I do hate what his version of "debate" does to the public discourse.

He goes by that old lawyer rule.

If the facts are with you: Debate the facts
If the facts are against you: Debate the law/society
If neither argument can be made: Get loud enough to drown out your opposition.

Just to be fair, Air America and any other highly slanted programming towards either direction uses this same tactic and frustrates me just as much.
