In October 1894, the Athletic Association at the University of Tennessee resolved to drop varsity football and look forward to baseball in the spring. After the humiliating 1893 season (two wins and four imposing losses), only two athletes willing to admit they had played on the 1893 team returned to campus in 1894!!!! To complicate matters further, the practice field located just west of the main entrance to The Hill, was being graded and improved.

Soon after the decision had been made, W.B. Stokley, a UT senior who transfered from Wake Forest, pursuaded a group of students to form a team. Stokley, who was elected team captain, gave encouragement and direction to the other players. Even though the institution chose not to be represented officially on the gridiron, Stokley and his unofficial team kept football interest alive.

1894's Team went, 2-0-2
1895's Team went, 3-2-1

These unofficial games are not included in NCAA statistics or in official University of Tennessee win-loss records.

So, atleast we have a team this season!!!

What is worse? Going 2-4 or having only a 6 game season. That would suck for us couch players.

Last season is "water under the bridge" for me. I'm looking forward to what a great season that 2006 is going to be.

I'm not sure that last season could have been any worse. First, with the money involved simply for participating in the SEC, which requires a football team, there is no way the school ever drops football. Second, if you take away the LSU win and maybe lump in a loss to Memphis or Kentucky IMO we would have a new head coach right now. I realize that would not make everyone happy, but it would have fulfilled the wish of some of us. Also, a new HC would undoubtedly create some buzz and anticipation about the team, particularly in the area of recruiting, which we're now lacking. Basically, we are all just sitting around waiting to see whether we'll get a reappearance of the perfect storm or the type of UT football we've come to expect.
