Last time VOLS had a close opener

The last time TENN played someone they were highly ranked above with an athletic quarterback that made crazy plays... his name was donovan mcnabb and we went on to win the national title. THINK ABOUT IT!!!

We weren't highly ranked above them. We were #11 and they were #14. It was an evenly matched game.

I'd much rather have a close, physical first game than an easy blow-out. Especially with NO BIG INJURIES known and 2 brutal road games coming up. Bring the kids back to earth (from that lofty preseason ego-inflating rating) and get them focused on preparing for UF.

From a mental standpoint, I totally agree. But it won't matter if we don't execute better.

Syracuse was much, much better than UAB, too.

I think many are still underrating UAB. They certainly don't have the national name recognition, but I suspect in the long run, Hackney may be a better QB in the NFL than McNabb.

UAB is not bad, but they are not as good as the Syracuse team we opened with in 1998.

FWIW, right now, UT is nowhere near as good as that 98 team, either.

I think the close game was good for us...If we get into a nail biter in Gainsville we have already had a close game, Florida on the other hand are coming off one and soon to be two laughers.
