It's actually 3x the number expected, and it will definitely be statistically significant.

FTR, the American College of Cardiology removed their initial recommendations on cardiac screening for athletes with a history of mild to moderate CV19 last fall.

Again, this is burying the lede.

If >85% of the Israeli population is vaccinated, and >50% of the delta cases have been found in the <15% that remain unvaccinated, what does this tell us about the effectiveness of the vaccine in combating the delta variant?

I just heard that 4 of the 6 NC St players that tested positive were actually vaccinated.

This is a huge problem. I'm not sure what the issue is. False positives? Vaccine able to cause positive tests?

Maybe it just keeps the symptoms from being severe? As contagious as this thing is, I would imagine that it’s still spreading like wildfire.

I fear even double masks wouldn't help. We know that the nature of baseball is an extremely physical in your face type of sport. Undoubtedly the virus could waft from the outfielders into the stands and potentially kill most spectators. They made the right call forcing NCST to forfeit, and honestly I think they should consider razing the stadium and covering it in Purel.

the other thing missing from the posted version of the story is how many people got infected - if it's 1000 then 500 out of 85% of Israel is nothing - if it's 100,000 then it's a big deal.

the number of infections is important too because it brings into question herd immunity and the Delta variant. per the esteemed Dr. Fauci 85% vaccination should get you to herd immunity but if there's a major outbreak then herd immunity wasn't achieved via the vaccine.

the simple answer would be to include the number of total cases so we could put the rest of the information in context.

Some more info from the original WSJ article:

Israeli health officials are optimistic that even if the variant does spread, evidence from countries such as the U.K. indicate the vaccine will prevent a large increase in severe illness and hospitalizations that plagued the country’s health system in previous outbreaks. Israel has only recorded five severe cases in the past 10 days, Prof. Balicer said, but whether more will emerge is too early to tell.

The number of cases in Israel is relatively low by global standards. But new cases of Covid-19 rose to over 200 on Thursday from around 10 a day for most of June. (NOTE: 90% of new cases are Delta variant)

About 80% of Israelis of age 16 and above have received two doses of the vaccine that was developed by Pfizer and German partner BioNTech SE.
