The placement of C(K)arl Sledgwick (sp?) on the UT Board of Trustees is being viewed as a "slap in the face" to Alabama.

According to the beacon of credibility - Tommy Gallion - Sledgwick has repeatedly bragged about his role in bringing down the University of Alabama's football team.

Gallion has taken Sledgwick's desposition and in typical Gallion fashion, he says there's some big stuff in there but he can't talk about it now.

Speculation continued that none other than Phil Fulmer is now choosing UT BOT members (since he and Sledgwick are apparently buddies). Finally, it is being suggested that Sledgwick's choice was done to say "in your face" to Alabama.

Just wanted to give you a head's up on the next of many allegations to come down the pike.

Finebaum tried to get Gallion to link the "street agent" to another deposee out of Memphis (Kahn?). Gallion didn't bite but did say he doesn't have time to investigate everything.

This is a PR war plain and simple. At some point, all this crap needs to be countered or people will start believing it. Lord knows, many already believe it here.

I understand the "E" (Evil) and I understand the "O" ( Orange) but what does the "V" stand for?

Doc, many people WANT to believe it. This is the most frustrating class of people I've ever come into contact with. The folks around these parts may not be illiterate, but they are certainly emotionally handicapped.

EOV = Evil Orange Vampire????

Of course - that's it!

I didn't say I was a good professor - :p

Upon reflection, I'm still not sure where I got the "V".

Agreed, it doesn't seem to be connected to intelligence level.

I'm sure you face the same daily dilemma; explain why things aren't as presented or ignore it. Very frustrating.

I was reluctant at first about this guy, considering his involvement with our beloved Jack and C.H. Butcher, but now I like him. HAHA!

Well, I think I can elaborate.

As my handle indicates, I've been around the block a time or two. I come from a long line of Tennessee fans. I came up listening to John and Bill on Saturday afternoons in the fall. In fact, I'm related to a former UT coach. So I know a little bit about the UT/Bama rivalry. After I married, my late father-in-law was a huge Bear Bryant fan. My allegiances were never in question, but I came to respect all things that were Alabama football. To wit, I still Love Alabama. I refuse to allow the actions of a few thousand ‘small brains’ (that's my affectionate term for the Bama fans who have stirred this 'tempest in a tea pot' of a controversy which isn't) turn me against the University of Alabama, the many thousands of great Bama fans, and the great friends I have in the state who are huge Bama fans.

I recall going to my first away game in the mid sixties at Legion Field, before the days of fake turf. UT had two incredibly small, but incredibly fast scat backs. The Bama grounds keepers just happened to forget to turn the water off. The field was a muddy pit on a bright sunny fall afternoon. Bama managed to wrangle a 7 to 7 tie. The wet field effectively took away the advantage UT's speed gave them. Sure, it was a dirty, intentional trick, but it was the sort of thing we all came to expect out of the Bear. General Neyland was not beyond using such tactics as well. But it was something both sides expected, planned for, and even loved. It was all part of what made Tennessee/Alabama the most glamorous rivalry in the South, and as far as I was concerned, in the nation.

Now, with the use of the Internet we have mindless morons masquerading behind the anonymity of the web who wouldn't dare make the accusations to one's face that they do on the web.

Now, to speak to the problem in Alabama; The difference between Alabama and Tennessee, for the most part is; people who grew up on Alabama football had nothing else to distract them. Their complete devotion was to Tide football. They did not have a lot to do down there. The area was greatly depressed after the Civil war, and the state has always been a few year behind the times. I know this may fly in the face, but let’s look at a few things on the Sports landscape today.

Tennesseans have become enamored with Titan's football. Many thousands who could never even tell you how hockey was officiated, had not a clue as to what a 'hat trick' was, can now spout the stats of guys named Legwand and Vokoun.

The sole focus for many Alabama sports fans is the Tide. Yes, they are a bit, shall we say, 'McGoo' about it at times. However, I truly believe that is part and parcel the difference. Folks in Tennessee have some of the same tendencies, but they also have a few more things to fixate on rather than The Big Orange.

For what it's worth; I still love Alabama. I just loathe these 'small brains.'
