And this is just from the top. I would hate te see the numbers from the developmental levels. And think of how many grass-roots racers have had to park their cars due to no funds.

Well my father in law is the truest form of grassroots racer and attempts a couple of ARCA shows a year at Daytona and Talladega because all he had was a Speedway car. He was LEASING motors for $25,000 per race. He got wind of the Ganassi merger with DEI early because he had recently bought a Ganassi Nationwide car to convert to ARCA. He hauled mail down the interstate and came away from the Ganassi shop with:

4 brand new full motors race ready
Several extra cranks, oil pans, drive trains, etc.

And some more things I can't remember and paid $30,000 for all of it. Its tough but with some of these teams selling off everything the little guys "can" buy a bunch of stuff dirt cheap right now too. I can't believe how much he got for so little. Now he is thinking about running Kentucky, Michigan, and Iowa now in addition to Daytona and Talladega.

it's actually not uncommon at all for a local racer to buy his parts from a NASCAR level team.

i read an article a few years back about the business of selling old parts, either because they've been used once or sometimes not at all, and they become outdated..

Oh no I understand that - he has always got the hand me down equipment from NASCAR level teams. Its just with so many mergers and acquisitions right now if you have the money there is definitely very good equipment to be had at a bargain basement price. He was going to lease a Ganassi engine for Daytona this year and they were going to charge him 30k on a lease before they merged with DEI. Then he turns around and buys all of that for 30k that he gets to keep.

Believe it or not, it doesn't seem that long ago you could buy a complete "roller" from Hutcherson for not much more than $30,000. All you had to add was the engine & tranny. about $10,000. Of course a full season exclusive sponsorship for a top team could be had for $1 million.

Yeah, Aflac was wanting to "sell 4 of their races this year on Edward's car for ONLY $750,000 a race. I think both Army and Sub Way both sain no thanks. I could retire and never have to work again with $750,000. I could find alot better things to do than put my logo on the hood of a race car for that kind of money no matter who it is.
