Has Juwan Mitchell played this year? I know he was in the doghouse but were mid-season.

He's played and I believe started some games. Seems to be a "role" player. Beasley has made his mark and left a few on opponents. He leads the team in tackles.

This is an interesting D in that way. He is only 27th in the SEC. Production is spread around among UT's players. UT is 5th in TFL's with 35... BY has the most with 4.5 and shares the rest with 20 team mates. UT is 4th in the SEC with 14 sacks... produced by 10 different players.

The Vols are having a lot of guys step into the moment.

From the LSU game (hat tip to PFF)

In 46 snaps, Banks had 2 tackles, 1 missed tackle, and PPF grade of 64.
In 44 snaps, Beasley had 8 tackles, 0 missed tackle, and PPF grade of 60.
In 43 snaps, Mitchell had 0 tackles, 1 missed tackle, and PPF grade of 56.

Why did Banks grade better than Beasley? Not sure but Beasley was 0-3 when targeted in pass coverage. Banks was 2-4 with a BPU. That could be it.

Also interesting ... Beasley was in for 12 snaps that were rushing plays. On these 12 plays, he had 5 tackles.

Should it be concerning that a LB played 43 snaps and 0 tackles?

Beasley is more of a “see ball carrier, hit ball carrier” type. He can be a missile at times. He shot the A gap on one of those 4th down stops and it was a thing of beauty. But he’s not as good in pass coverage and assignment football.

Mitchell seems to be the opposite. He’s better than Beasley in coverage and sticking with assignments, but doesn’t seem to tackle as well (which is weird, given what he did at Texas).

Akron - 29 snaps (1 tackle)
Florida - 62 snaps (3 tackles)
LSU - 44 snaps (0 Tackles 1 Pass Breakup)

Snaps and Stats
135 snaps and he's got 4 tackles and 1 pass breakup? As previously stated, I'll not place a lot of stock in any transfer or juco until they prove themselves. It's really hit or miss in most cases.

DLinemen are making a lot of tackles compared to LB's.

Our DL has done very well against the run.

If the DL gets a bit of improvement against pass, pushing the pocket and getting more pressure and they will be very good.

We don't have to worry about Mitchell. He's still shaking the cobwebs off. In addition to the pass breakup in the LSU game, he'll make his share of big plays before the end of the season.

I was re watching some of the LSU game today and Mitchell looked bad. Some plays he was way out of position both in coverage and run fits and the few times I saw him in pursuit it was almost sad how slow he looked. I can’t remember the details of his injury, but whatever it was it must have done a number on him.

He could have had more of a "spy" role instead of just reacting to the ball.
