LB recruiting

Tim Hart is instate. He is MUS and right now the CBs are for Ole Miss but I'm willing to bet we have someone that might be able to talk to him about UT and why he should choose the Vols over that hot mess down there in Mississippi.

Tyrel Dodson is probably the best guy we have a shot with in-state. But yeah I'm with you, we don't seem to be loading up at that position like some others.

Daniel Bituli.

Keion Joyner is rated a 5*, so I assume he has playmaker potential....

I think Bituli was close to committing once. He's rated a 4*. I hope he could be a stud LB. Any thoughts?

BB, you bring up a good point. We are young at LB, so perhaps it's not a huge priority this year.

Dodson is the best instate LB and we might be able to get back in on him. I think we need MLBs not so much OLBs since we are stacked there

I see us only taking 1 lb this year. Last year we took Smith, Kirkland, Sapp and Taylor who will all see time at lb.bplus Bates, McDowell, Bryant and Johnson last year. We are loaded with young talented linebackers.

Yeah, I think we only need to take one and that one needs to be a MLB

I think after fall camp, the perception will change for this.

Dodson is clearly the best LB in the state. So I would like him to be our Mike LB. To push Kirkland.

on the outside we are more than fine imo.

Bates
McDowell
Sapp
Reeves- Maybin

Hyrbrid guys

Taylor
Smith
Weatherd (sr)
Maggitt (sr)
Bates will learn this position as well

So if we get two
I would like Dodson and Joyner.
If not Joyner... then Jamal Couch.

We're just in a position to be very VERY selective at LB this cycle because we have recruited so well there the last couple of years and are absolutely loaded with young talent and depth.

While true, I agree with the consensus...we need another true Mike.

I would not be surprised if Butch gets just about whoever he wants if we have a good season. At every position. Too bad that the numbers are limited, but a lot of elite prospects will be clamoring to get on this train if on the field results are good.

Berry is 6'0 tall, 217 lbs. Way too small for a MLB. He'll be a special teams ace and in the rotation at WLB eventually.

Not saying this is going to happen, but if he could get up to 235-240 without losing too much speed he could play mike. Ray Lewis is 6'-1"

It's not just about size when playing that position. No he can't be to light, but remember Jaylen Reeves-Maybon @ 225lbs is an option there as well.

He's fast and physical. Not to mention he can probably gain another 10 lbs without losing anything. Al Wislon played at 227 for most of his career at UT.

Elliot was playing some mike this spring as well.

Jacob Johnson is 6'4" 240 ish.
Plenty big, but his instincts and read recognition seemed very average. But he's still new to the game.

My point is, that position requires more than just being big and powerful. You have to play physical and be where you are supposed to be.

Some of Tennessees best LB have been strong safeties that added muscle and kept their speed and very athletic running backs who had a nasty streak... MLB normally have to be recruited.. that said Vols probably need to add 5 possible LBs this year and 5 WRs as well. Also need 4 or 5 solid OL and more DTs and a DE or two
