I have been watching film of all the late LB's signed by the new staff and despite a lack of stars, I think they are a really solid group.

John Propst
This guy comes from one of the best football programs in the country and he is a pure MLB. Big, fast, and most importantly smart. I believe he is a future starter for the Vols.

Martaze Jackson
He played nothing but DE in high school but projects as an OLB at UT and he is ridiculously fast. He needs to add a little weight and his coverage skills probably aren't great but he has a knack for finding the ball carrier and destroying him. Auburn really wanted this guy but ran out of scholly's.

Raiques Crump
My personal favorite of the group, he played a hybrid DE/OLB in high school but will probably be a pure OLB at UT. His speed is amazing and he has great instincts. Saban wanted him to walk on at UA. Could be the steal of this class.

Dontavis Sapp
Played Safety in high school but played it more like a LB than a DB. His frame (6'3") leads many people to believe he is a LB at the next level. He is very fast and a very hard hitter.

I know most of you have moved on to the '11 class but I would appreciate your thoughts on this bunch.

Solid class--nothing outstanding but I think all will be contributors/starters down the road. Probably need to redshirt Sapp and Crump (and maybe all 4) depending on injuries this fall. Coach'em up

I know some people will have a problem with this, but if I'm Dooley and I'm talking to someone as smart as CLT about what my difficiencies are at LB then I'm getting fast guys that want to hit, because that's what we were lacking on our coverage teams. This is why we give up so many return yards.

I used to be a wedge buster when I played and when you have nasty guys with speed that will strike somebody, those returners don't run as hard, because they hear pads popping and guys getting knock back into their laps. I think some of these LBs will definitely step up and contribute on the defense, but I would put money down that some of these guys were brought to TN, because of what their coverage team film looks like!

You can't neglect special teams! Ask CPF!

I say two of them exceed expectations and the other two bust. The odds aren't in UT's favor.

I'll buy this for a dollar.

I say Crump and Propst turn out to be very productive players. Since we are playing the 50% stat. Those two are my choices.

Isn't Propst the son of former Hoover coach? What ever happened to him? He had some issues iirc.

He is the nephew of the former Hoover coach.

Rush is coaching in 5A GA at Colquitt Co making $95k per year. He has already turned that program around. They were 2-8 before he got there. He went 4-6 in his first year. In '09 in his 2nd year, he went 11-3 in arguably the toughest conference in GA (Warner Robbins, Lowndes, Valdosta, etc) and took Colquitt Co. to the state semis. On the way in the 3rd round, they beat Hutson Mason's undefeated Lassiter team 46-17.

Yeah Rush Propst is a moron but the guy knows high school football. I grew up in the Hoover area during his reign there and what he did was amazing.

Does anyone think one of these guys earns a starting role or becomes a starter later in the season? I know CDD said he would run "multiple 4" defence, but with the lack of DTs and quite a few LBs, whats everyones take on a 3-4? Think we may see some 3-4 once in awhile in a game?

LV. Your right he's a hell of a HS coach. What was the big noise about him. Some scandal or something, you remember?

Supposedly he had relations with either one or a couple female students. That's what I seem to remember hearing. Hell of a coach though and I know his nephew is going to tear it up here. You can see he just knows the game.

Actually he had a secret family and was having a relationship with an administrator at the school. Like I said, he's a moron. But a great coach.

You lost me at best football programs in the country. Ridiculous

No I haven't, and I don't see how that would skew my ability to identify the top HS football programs in America. Hoover is not a top program, Propst just won a ton of games on someone else's system (Tony Franklin)

1. I lived around Hoover during Propst's time there and what he did was insane and he's doing it again right now in Georgia.

2. I go to Auburn and saw first hand what Tony Franklin's "system" can do.

He's not "doing it again" in GA. He hasn't won a thing, and he probably won't.

Tony Franklin didn't have a chance to implement his system. Most of it was nixed by Tubbs. And comparing high school and college is laughable. Without Tony Franklin's system nobody would know who the hell Rush Propst was
