Leach Looking Forward To Opener - Mississippi State

The Bulldogs head into this year with one of the most experienced teams anywhere. A total of 16 starters return – eight on each side of the ball.
...
Rogers' 4,739 passing yards in 2021 are the third most in SEC single-season history. He became one of only two SEC quarterbacks over the last 22 seasons to throw for more than 4,700 yards and 35 touchdowns while completing at least 73 percent of passes.
...
The Bulldogs are bringing back players who accounted for 72.2 percent of their receptions from a year ago. State brings back the entirety of its rushing production. The offensive line features a projected starting group that has racked up a combined 5,175 career snaps.

On the opposite side of the ball, the Bulldogs welcome back players who accounted for 79.1 percent of last year's defensive snaps – not to mention of the 22 players on the defensive side of State's two-deep depth chart, 17 have spent the last two seasons under defensive coordinator Zach Arnett with three more playing at least a season in Arnett's 3-3-5 scheme.

And remember, this is an Arnett-led defense that has finished fourth or better in the SEC in total defense in each of the last two seasons.

Ever since Leach took the TTU Red Raiders into Austin and beat the Longhorns with the 'Air Raid' offense I have thought of Leach as a football genius. This will be his 3rd season at the helm in Starkville, MS. I expect it will be a good one.

When Leach has been at MSU for 3 years, they will be competing for the SEC West. ~camp_steveo November 2020
Coach Mike Leach

Just to be clear, yes, at that time I wanted CML at UT. That said, don't mistake that to mean that I would prefer him to CJH. I actually think it worked out perfectly for both teams.

Go Vols!

In your mind, perhaps so.

Let me put this to you in another manner though. You-rickyvol77 now have the power of time travel and also final Ok for any UT football coaches You have now been transported back to late November of 2017 and know how the 2018-2020 seasons played out

Do you
A) leave things as they happened. Pruitt hired. Program is left in flames in January 2021

B) accept that currie has an agreement with Leach and he becomes UT HC in 2018

I am kind of ambivalent on Leach honestly. Some things I like, some things not so much. I do however know that for the years 2018-2020, UT football would have been a helluva lot more fun with Leach as HC that it was with Pruitt.

Lol. Let's examine that after Leach's year 3 which is what Pruitt got.

In the end, really doesn't matter as most of the wins under Pruitt are going to be vacated. We lost to Ga St with bought players under that idiot. In a game that was nowhere near as close as the score. I'm sorry but that is just inexcusable.

Lol no wins will be vacated. Leach will be fired just like Pruitt after a season or two more of losing. And then he will go to a sun belt school where he will continue to rack up meaningless yards and lose big in games that matter

Uh, trust me brother-the wins from at least Pruitt's last two seasons are gone. The university has already admitted that players were being bought (pre NIL when illegal). Those wins will be the first thing the school offers up as "punishment".

I'm honestly not sure about the 5 wins from his first season. From 2019 on, we know Tutu (yes, I call him that now) was guilty and he was in every game-along with others.

Like I said,.I'm not a huge Leach fan but I'm man enough to admit he is a heckuva lot better than Pruitt.

Uh, you know the school has already self imposed punishments. None of them involved vacating games.

Leach will be at State for a long time...They love him there like we love CJH here...He just needs to get his own players to fit his system and he is...He would've been a hell of a lot better coach here at UT than Pruitt if we had gone that route.
22-64 all time against ranked teams. Two decent seasons in 20 years of coaching where he had a pillow soft schedule and still couldn’t get it done vs the rival to win a title. No championships. No nothing. Fired twice. Mediocrity and meaningless yards and losing to anyone decent with an occasional upset and a media sound bite to blame someone else for his lousy record

The school has "proposed" punishments.

Trust me, if we are LUCKY then the NCAA will just accept our punishments and vacate the wins. If that is what happens, you will hear a collective cheer from the administration.

There will be something tacked on in the end that will be painful. Never fails.

Texas tech is historically a 55% school. Leach had a 65% winning record. That's 10% over historical norms for a bottom dweller. None of the coaches that came afterwards at Tech have had the same success as Leach did. I didnt see a historical breakdown vs ranked teams for the school but I am willing to bet he was above that average as well.

I would imagine it's the same at Wazzou.

The schools he is at dont expect anything more. And as nebraska has found out its dumb to fire a coach who maintains some level of success at a disadvantaged school.

At schools that do not have a winning tradition at all...What he did at TTU and Wazzou are amazing accomplishments considering thier histories...He got fired from Texas Tech...Who else fired him?

MSU has a lot of returners, but the schedule looks rough. Could be a good team with a middle of the pack record when its all said and done.

Leach is a better coach than Pruitt by two country miles and the coaching market proves it. You and I are on the same page on a lot of our views on here, and I consider you an ally in my darkest times of comment posting. But dammit Ricky, that was just pure spite. Be better Rickyvol77.

Leech has done well at places that are difficult to have success.
