Very good article.

The more I study up on the triple option and the reads the QB needs to make, I realize just how UNpocket passer the QB is. I realize just how much the offense hinges on a level head, proper timing,etc... I realize just how much Leak isn't cut out for this offense and how easily the offense can stall with him running it. I realize just how LONG it woild take a squad to get comfortable in it, and how long a QB would take to execute it smoothly. The derogetory Meyer quotes about this offense/team take on a whole new meaning.

Also, I've been wondering all off-season if this triple option will decimate the opposition. I've wondered if our defense can defend it. Guys and gals... It ain't new. Meyer didn't invent it. I watched a VERY close version of it for decades in Statesboro where I grew up at the GA Southern games. It was stout 20 years ago, but GA So is having to change since defenses have adjusted to it. It's the glorified wishbone. An altered flexbone. It's been around in many schemes for decades and is about as old-school as it comes. If defensive coordinators can't scheme for it, fire them

We'll be alright against them.

Well said and I tend to agree - if you look at the option teams that have dominated us - they have been true option teams. I consider this to be a more"finesse option" and your take on the QB's role is very accurate - I thin k Chavis willl be able to disguise the defensive front enough that we should be ok - not saying that we won't give up points but I think our d can keep us in the game.

What about UF's depth on both sides of the ball??? it seems that all the highlights I have seen are of the same guys over and over again. they have played 2 teams - both with talent that is no where near SEC level - so can these guys run loose all day with a defense that has great speed??

You are right my friend. There is very little new about this offense. Way back in the early 60s, at a little high school in Middle Tennesse, we ran a form of this offense and call it the Wing or Slot T depending upon where the Halfbacks lined up. The quarterback way back then read the defense when the ball was snapped and could option the pass or run and yes we had the Utah Pass back then too but we called it the inside or middle screen.

I even coached a form of when coaching at a Junior High School in the Late 60s-early 70s. I called my offense the L-Set Wing Option. It was complete with backs in motion and two read options by the quarterback.
