Would you get on that boat if your were stuck in Beruit now? Why is our government advertising our escape plan. Sure they want to get the word out, but now every nut with a Katusha under their sleeping mat knows just where to look if they want to light up a boatful of U.S. citizens. Is this wise? Could it be a smoke screen? Is W trying to provoke a massacre of U.S. citizens in orer to create a pre-text for invading Syria and/or Iran?

I'll hang up and listen.

It is definitely questionable. However, if the right amount of security is provided, then I see no problem with it. What I find more questionable is the fact that many Americans are seeking safe haven in Syria of all places...

Also, not quite sure that the White House made the announcement about the Cruise Ship as much as some government doorknob leaked more info to the press...

Not only that, but they'll have to pay if they want to be sitting ducks..

Is FEMA in charge of this evacuation?

could they be bait? Ive heard it report just as often with this story that warships are straticially placed to cover the evacuation as well as troop ships bringing in groundforces to assist.

When I first heard about the "pay" I was taken aback. But as I thought about I began to agree.

Why should the govt (us - taxpayers) pay to get your ass out of trouble in a foreign country due to a conflict we're not involved with?

Put more broadly for discussion on the board - Where do you draw the line on when you think it's the government's role to bail you out of trouble at no charge?

The line is very easy to see. It's disguised as an "aisle" in Congress. :wink2:

I just wonder who the heck takes a vacation to Lebanon?

I'm with you on that one. I doubt very many of them went there not knowing that it wasn't the most stable place.

Whenever we have a faculty opening, we always get vitas (resumes) from profs that took a job at American University in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, UAE, etc. The offer to go there looks pretty $weet but I guess being an infidel gets old...

That's a valid point. I'm just saying that personally, I'd probably trek up into Northern Lebanon before I decided to pay (or sign) and be an easy target.
