A day after digging up Morten Anderson for kicking, the Falcons are in serious talks with Byron. Looks like Rich is moving quickly to stave off a losing season as best as possible.

He'll certainly be an upgrade over Harrington.

I don't know about that. Leftwich can't move around at all; not a good combination with an offensive line that can't protect the quarterback. Harrington's been getting mauled, and he's more mobile than Leftwich.

I guess the thinking is that maybe Leftwich will get the ball out of there faster than Harrington. I'll believe it when I see it.

Byron can read coverages lightyears faster than Champagne Joey. Also, his arm strength will enable Petrino to delve through the playbook more frequently.

However, this is all nullified if the pass protection continues to be frightful.

You may not have watched the first two Falcons games of the year. In passing situations, Leftwich will have two defenders back in the pocket waiting for him to finish rattling through his five-step drop so they can sack him.

Agreed. Without a mobile QB, Atlanta will probably have to employ a three step drop with two, maybe three reads. Five step, maybe, if there's no blitz.

With THAT offensive line, Big Boi will spend more time on a stretcher than upright on the field. I'm not sure what's up with the receivers but many of Harrington's sacks were caused by receivers being well covered for hours upon hours. Will Leftwich fare any better? Doubt it.

Anything will be an improvement. The Falcons aren't exactly an offensive juggernaut scoring only 10 points in 2 games. Wonder if they regret getting rid of Shaub? Or drafting Vick instead of L.T.?

Regret is not the word....I can think of a few more colorful word choices for that line of thinking...
