Legacy of Slavery

I think it's just used as a convenient excuse. If a black man can't get ahead, it's because of slavery. If he fathers 6 kids out of wedlock and supports none of them, it's because of slavery. If he ends up in prison, it's because of slavery.

I don't buy the "slavery caused it" excuse.

So you do not think a legacy of something previous has any relevance on a current issue?

relevance? maybe. but should it be a crutch used to excuse anti-social behavior? no.

slavery has nothing to do with today's crime statistics, poor black achievement in schools, or the illegitimacy rate in black neighborhoods. The problems facing the black community today have more to do with so-called leaders who insist on living in the past and always seeking redress of grievances committed decades and even centuries ago.

Hmmm. Slave owners in 1860 blamed the north and evil European slave traders long before for the ills of slavery but then said they had no choice but to go along with those ills. Leaders today blame the depression and the New Deal for modern ills. Zell Miller blames abortion for the immigration crisis, social security problems, and the lack of enough troops for the WOT.

Seems like everyone wants in on blaming something that happened long ago for ills in society. Now the evil homosexual/Hollywood/Leftist agenda will be blamed for turning America into Sodom and Gomorrah.
