It has been widely reported that Orgeron contacted EEs and all committed prospects for UT last night.

We are in a dead period, currently. So that means the entire coaching staff can only call each prospect once.

So that means if he (or Kiffin, etc) contact anyone of them again before Sunday, it's a violation, right?

I just want to make sure I understand that correctly.

I believe this is a different kind of dead period which just involves coaches not being able to do in homes visits, or players to visit...Basically no face to face meetings. He'll F'up over in USC though just watch, this was the best thing that could have happened to UT. Ya'll just need to make a solid hire for your next HC.

USC assistant called Tennessee recruits - latimes.com

"Yes, I did call recruits to clear up any questions they had," Orgeron said without identifying the players and declining to answer how many he reached. "In my knowledge, I followed the rules correctly."

However, there were also reports that Orgeron encouraged recruits who had signed up for spring semester courses at Tennessee not to attend their first classes this week.

NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn said rules stipulate that "an institution cannot contact a student-athlete enrolled at another institution without permission from the current school. A currently enrolled student-athlete who transfers must sit out a year before becoming eligible to compete. An enrolled student-athlete is one who is officially registered and enrolled in a minimum, full-time program of studies in any quarter or semester of an academic year, as certified by the registrar or admissions office, provided the student was present at the institution on the opening day of classes."

Osburn also said the NCAA may choose to work with USC and Tennessee to gather "relevant fact and data" regarding Orgeron's contact.

Asked if he advised Tennessee recruits to not attend classes Wednesday so they wouldn't face transfer rules, Orgeron said, "I'm not going to get into that.

I think they go after this! IMO

I believe dead period was during bowl season... it's over now! 95% Sure...

I've seen a few different things. I read yesterday that the dead period lasted through this sunday, now i see in that article thats it ends thursday. I've heard that a coach can call a recruit 1 time and i've heard that the recruit can only call the coach that the coach cant call.

My brain is so baked from all this coaching/recruiting crap.

I hope Ogre gets fried for calling recruits and EE's. That would be funny if he got SC in major touble on his way out.

I agree and I hope that the NCAA goes after CEO & CLK...I understand that Kiffin's dream job was USC, but, the timing that this happened will set our program back another 3 years. We were already shorthanded player wise before Kiffin's departure...then they try to sway our committed players to USC during a dead period...they suck big time...take the call log from both CEO & CLK's TN cell phones and see who they called and how many times they called our recruits telling them to not go to school...they (our former coaching staff ) turned out to be hired guns or mercenaries...give them enough time and they will drag USC through the mud...plus the penalties that the NCAA imposes on USC should make for interesting times in Southern Cali...Go VOLS!

he coaches at USC now. he could pay the players and the great NCAA would look the other way.

Look, if it takes the NCAA this long to determine if the whole Reggie Bush thing is a violation, just forget about them coming to our defense involving USC anytime soon. If investigated, I'd doubt it'd turn out as anything more than a secondary, which I'm sure those rat coaches would gladly trade for all of our good recruits. We r screwed, period, especially now that it seems no big name coach wants this job. Our only hope is a quick and popular hire.

teams that the ncaa will not mess with because they make them to much money. Ohio St, USC, Florida, Texas. these four teams are untouchable. they can pay there players, give them cars and whatever else they want and the great NCAA will never touch them.

Dead period 1/11-14.
-- Allows ONE call to recruits per institution. (Ambles claims to have been called by O and Kiff.
-- Allows ZERO in person contacts. We know O has done this to the EEs...AND called them.

Don't know how true this is, but a lawyer friend of mine said that part of the problem the NCAA has had with the Bush thing is the NCAA cannot force witnesses to testify it is mostly voluntary (may not apply to staff), but that since a California Supreme Court Judge denied the request to have a closed trial, that the NCAA can use the depoisitions and testimony from the trial to build their case. FWIW
