Cowbells this fall? Maybe | The Clarion-Ledger | clarionledger.com

Rules are rules, said LSU coach Les Miles, and artificial noisemakers are not supposed to be allowed, according to NCAA rules.

"I voted against it," Miles said. "I think it's illegal. It should be called illegal. It should not be allowed. It's wrong. Otherwise, we need to get some artificial noisemakers with Tiger roars."

At this point, Miles growled like a Tiger.

"The new rule encourages them not to make noise with the bells at the wrong times," he said. "The league is saying you can cheat, but we're going to have this ability to fine you. I have no idea what the hell that's about."

The vote to allow cowbells again was 10-2, Miles/Alleva was one vote against. I wonder who the other was?

Cowbells are stupid

Yes they are.

There was an idiot street vendor selling UT cowbells one time on campus.

I spent 20 minutes explaining to him that cowbells were an MSU thing and Tennessee fans wanted nothing to do with them.

Most opposing fans are just jealous of Mississippi State's cowbell tradition because they never ban them from us and they are a great tradition and sound awesome on TV.

Oh Billy C, you got us.

Tennessee would gladly trade Robert Neyland for a few cowbells.

The cowbells have no effect at all on the noise level at the game. The stadium is so small and open it can't get loud there.

That said I am still against artificial noisemakers. But I'm guessing that 10-2 vote is because those 10 coaches know the cowbells are insignificant.

yes, they compensate for the team's overall lack of talent and intelligence.

I've got to assume either Chizik or Nutt was the other vote. Nutt because he and Mullen are at lagerheads; Chizik because Auburn has been the school to bring up the issue in the past.

Is this sort of like, does a tree falling in a forest make noise when nobody is around?

getting loud after the play starts means nothing. If you need noisemakers then you're doing it wrong

We have the biggest jumbotron in the SEC and it's the 2nd biggest in the whole nation only behind Texas.

Wow. Congrats. Maybe it should've been spent on more useful things, like new facilities. Never heard a recruit say, "I'm going to this school because they have a bigger jumbotron." Maybe that's why Mullen constantly gets ***** slapped by Nutt in recruiting.
