Okay gang, think about this one real good...
Tonight when the Lady Vols beat Western Carolina, and I have no doubt at all that they will, Pat will tie Dean Smith for the most wins in
D-1. We are talking about getting up there close to 900 wins before long.
Rupp, Wooden, Smith, and ALL the rest will have to take a seat then behind Pat. And this from a girl we hired when she was just practically a kid herself. Man, I don't know about you guys, but I happen to think that Pat Summitt is more than just special. She is absolutely extraordinary.
Our university and every one of us who love U.T. and Volunteer athletics need to realize that this is a MAJOR EVENT in the world of sports at any level.
In order to accomplish this for U.T., for her teams, and for herself, she has had to assimilate nuances of every kind and pressure of every kind and jealously of every kind (Geno?) in a professional manner and in a way that should make us all more than just proud. We should be nothing less than grateful that she has represented all of us so well for so many years.
So my hat is not only off, it is held in hand reverently to Pat and her teams through the years. She is truly a sports legend and a sports hero to so many people.
