Let's get over the NSD gloom by looking ahead to next year for UT. I hope to see much improvement as I believe CBJ and staff are very good player developers. Here's how I see it turn out next year, and I'd love to hear VolNation's opinions as well:

Depth Chart:

Offense:

LT: Tiny/Posey
LG: M. Jackson/Bullard
C: Stone/Crowder
RG: Fulton/Bullard
RT: James/Kerbyson
X Receiver: Vincent Dallas/Drae Bowles/Croom/Carter
Y Receiver: Paul Harris/North (will play huge mins whether he starts at first or not)/Croom
Z Receiver: Pig/Jenkins/Smith
TE: Downs/Meredith/King or Quinn
RB: Lane/Neal/Young/Lee or Hill
QB: Peterman/Worley/Riley
FB When Needed: King/Hill (maybe)

The WR and QB spots are up for grab. I think North could start, same can be said for Bowles as well, but for now I like how I have it. I know Dallas isn't high on many people's boards, but he's a great blocker and could be a short yardage/goal line WR. Also, I think Croom has great upside and could play big mins as well, but he is coming off an injury so we will see how it goes for him. As for QB, I like Peterman's versatility and youth over Worley's experience.

Defense:

RE: Carr/Smith
NT: Mt. MC/Hood
DT: Couch/Miller/O'Brien
LE: J. Williams/Walls
SLB: Maggit/Bynum/Lewis (could play LE as well)
MLB: AJ/Harris
WLB: Sapp/Vereen
CB: Coleman/Johnson/Sutton
CB: Jones/Gray/Tino
FS: Randolph/ McNeil
SS: Moore/Brewer/JRM(could see time at WLB too)
Nickle: Gorden

Note for defense, I think we will go young as much as possible. I think L. Lewis, JRM, Johnson, Veeren, Bynum, J. Williams, Gray, Sutton, Carr, and O'Brien are going to get a big chance to play big mins for us to build for the future. Also, J. King could be moved to WLB, and Lewis, depending on weight, could be a SLB for us or a LE.

PR: Young/Foreman
KR: Young & Foreman/Pig Howard (We HAVE to start making special teams a priority and Pig is one of our best weapons, also JRM could see time here too. He's a baller when the ball is in his hands)

Record: 7-5

Loses to: Bama, FL, GA, Oregon, and South Carolina
Big Wins: Auburn, Missouri, and Vandy (Put Vandy here so everyone will shut up when we beat the crap out of them in K-Town)

A lot of the gloom from NSD comes from unrealistic expectations.

It's bad when you list Vandy as a big win! I'll be glad when we don't have to look at those guys as competition again...I really miss those days!

Exactly what I was thinking when I wrote this, but for now they have to go on here especially after the butt whooping they gave us this year. We need to make a statement with them this year.

Will not beat both Tigers teams. 6-6 is our ceiling with 5-7 being the realistic record.

I disagree. I think Butch sees the importance of beating these med level teams right off the bat, and then being very competitive against the elite SEC teams.

I'm not sure you should pencil Devrin Young on PR/KR just yet....

That's the great thing about this, if a opinion state it. I'm not saying I'm right your wrong, but more of I just want to see what everyone's opinion is.

Well that is appreciated, I actually think Devrin is ok returning kicks. I will say that when CP was there I noticed we got more explosion out of those returns so I wonder if Pig might not get a shot in the spring.

That looks good, but I sure wish we still had Arnett on the team to at least have one experienced wide receiver on the team......

Also, wish we still have Cam Clear. With him T.E. would be a huge strength for us and would help the new starter get acclimated to their starting role....

I just hope that Petrino's offense does not take Jancek's defense to school. If the team plays well in that game, then they might go to Oregon with their mojo working.

I think we are going to see a massive change on both sides of the ball, real coaching and game day preparation are going to be so much more improved than the last 3 years!!! I think this bunch will have heart and will fight all 4 quarters whether winning or losing, I do not see this bunch hanging their heads on the sideline like the previous teams!!!! So I think 7-5 is very realistic, and the beginning of "The Rise To The Top" VFL

Good post, and I would be giddy over that record coming from that schedule. My only disagreement with you is with Auburn. I know they were putrid last year, especially on offense, but I think Gus is a solid coach that will get them producing again. That game is a toss up or a loss in my book.

Petrino's offense takes a year or two to really get rolling - he was 5-7 in his first year at Arkansas, so no worries.
