17-10 defeat of a very good UCF team this evening. Mario Cristobal has simply done an outstanding job with that program.

I watched them last week. They got a kid named T.Y. Hilton that should be an official Heisman darkhorse.

I don't concern myself with the Heisman, but I agree, he's a stud.

FIU has possibly already run through the roughest art of their schedule too.

FIU going undefeated this season. Such an epic turn around under Cristobal. I think they were winless and consistently in ESPN's "Bottom 10" 2 or 3 seasons ago.

Didn't they already lose to Florida?

Being realistic...FIU's got a really good shot at starting 7-0 and being nationally ranked. Duke at home is their toughest game in the next few weeks. They draw Troy on Oct. 25, though. That'll be a big challenge for Cristobal, although they beat the Trojans on the road last year.

I think they breeze through the rest of their schedule. They've got D Line and O Line players that are more imposing than any team in the SUN Belt by far, and skill players (T. Y. Hilton) with BCS team speed.

Cristobal has led a remarkable turnaround. FIU just looks like a flat out good football team. Good for them.

IF, IF, IF, IF (I cannot stress this enough, cause I don't want Dooley to fail).

If Dooley does not work out at Tennessee and is fired in the next couple years, I want Cristobal as the next coach.

Not every successful mid-major guy can be another Urban Meyer... Most aren't. Cristobal has done a nice job getting FIU to some sort of prominence from scratch, but I would have expected it given their location, size and resources.

Oh, I know.

However, I've read articles on the guy, heard analysts talk about him. Everything screams winner to me.

He reminds me a lot of Al Golden. That same type of feel to him.

As likable as Golden is, we won't even know if he's the real deal for another four or five years. Mid major guys sometimes workout fantastically (like aforementioned Meyer) but the common theme among the real successful major conference coaches seems to be a relatively high level of success at a lower-tier school in a major conference.

Guys I see making a big splash in the coming decade would be Dabo Swinney, Jim Leavitt, Jim Harbaugh should he ever come back to college ball, and Mark Dantonio, should he decide his health is good enough to carry him through, could go on to have very good success out of Michigan State like Saban before him.

Mario Cristobal would not be a good fit at UT or another SEC program. Dude is Cuban, and you guys would eat him alive, as would the SEC media. Plus I think he's like 30 years old.

Clemson has sucked under Dabo Swinney, though.

Of course, they sucked under Bowden as well, so...

Loss to Louisiana-Lafayette tonight, 36-31. Not going to put a whole lot of stock into it, though. They lost TY Hilton midway through the first and their starting QB around the same time.
