Is anyone else still kind of shell shocked?
I was 10 years old in 1998. As a kid all I knew was the Vols were one of the premier teams(if not THE premier team)in the country. I was born into an elite culture/community surrounding the Tennessee Vols. And boy, did I take it for granted.
I never in my wildest dreams would've imagined we would spend 12 to 13 years being beaten down and humiliated by the rest of the sec and the media.
When we first started to slide it was a little surreal that it wasn't an "off" year... losing became our identity. We became a bottom dwelling, over looked after thought and a automatic W for some.
What's worse is that I began to believe that we could never again be the mighty team we once were. I thought midling in the sec east was our ceiling with the occasional 9-3 to keep us hoping and feeling that nostalgia.
However just as fast as we fell, it seems we have risen again. I see all the articles and social media posts singing our praises, I see #3 next to TENNESSEE and I get a little emotional because I thought I'd never see a number that high beside Tennessee again. I won't take it for granted this time.
Anybody else feel like youre dreaming still?
