I have never in my life seen so many angry vol fans. I know the game didn't go as we all had hoped but this is getting absurd.

Everyone has a differing opinion and that is why we have the message board, so that we can all share our thoughts and opinions and discuss the team. Some people are going to have opinions that are the exact opposite of yours and some posters are not going to be nearly intelligent about ut football as many of you. When that happens please treat others with some respect by stating your opinions and or refuting their argument but do NOT make it personal.

We do not allow flaming or namecalling of other posters no matter how much they may deserve it. And if someone disagrees with something you just posted, again, DON'T MAKE IT PERSONAL. That's one thing that I have always loved about this place is that we have been able to disagree and still be respectful of each other.

Please feel free to send me a personal message any time if you have questions. You can also send a message to myself or any of the other moderators if you see a post that you think is out of line.

Lastly, if your post gets deleted, moved or edited and you do not recieve a message telling you why, you can send me a message and I will get you an answer. In addition to the reasons above we may edit or move your post in an attempt to keep the board uncluttered. So if you post something non-vol related or something that has been posted multiple times before then it may be moved. Again, if that happens please don't take it personally. It is only an attempt to keep this site as user friendly as possible.

As always, if you have any questions or suggestions I am always happy to listen.

Good question. I found this on another board and thought it sounded good. The basis of flaming is calling people names instead of just disputing their opinion.

Flaming is personal attacks on other citizens of cyberspace. A flame is the kind of message which attacks not your opinion, but your personality, your looks, your personal habits and your dog's behaviour. In other words flaming has a lot to do with emotional responses, and nothing to do with reasonable disagreement.

This doesn't mean that you can't disagree with people, it would be a very dull discussion if everybody agreed, in fact there would be no point in the discussion at all. But the golden rule is that if you disagree with someone you disagree with the content of their message, you don't descend into personal comments.

There are people who try and start flame wars by posting flame bait, comments which are designed to start a fire or fan the flames. I suppose it's something to do, but really, they should get out more and stop wasting everyone's time.

If you read something that really makes you angry, resist the temptation to fire off an emotional response. Take a deep breath, go for a walk, put the message away until tomorrow. Keep in mind that no-one ever changed their mind because some called them a rude name.

If a discussion you are involved in turns into a flame war, you might want to think about how you can douse the flames. Sometimes the best way is simply not to get involved, if nobody replies the flamer has nothing to burn. Flames are not only unkind they are a waste of time and bandwidth. If nothing else, avoid fanning the fire.
