That lineup was for a 3-4. There is an NT in this defense.

Nah, that's the line up before the Montana game, 2011-12 when Wilcox was DC. It's semantics, whether he's NT/DT, or maybe "Multiple" as they like to throw around. Weakside 1 Tech Tackle as you said earlier works too. Big guy w/ A Gap responsibility, 4 dudes with hands in the dirt etc...

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted. I got 2011 & 2012 mixed up. I just did an edit on that post before I saw this one. Lol, I brought up the multiple angle in it as well. My apologies.

DE - miller - think he goes beast mode his senior year
DE - maggett - he has good straight line speed like little did several years ago but not enough foot speed to play lb in the sec. He is best with a hand in the dirt trying to get to the QB
NT -mcculers - I think he plays at 330-340 next year and plays lights out
DT - couch - need him to get down to 300 and get after it as well. Expect miller to play some dot in passing downs
Dline depth - hood, j smith, walls, l Lewis,

OLB - sapp - I think this guy makes allot of plays when given a chance. I think he was simply too small for sal and therefore only played when he had to. He has speed we missed last year at lb
OLB - brewer - another player that could add significant speed to the defense at the right position. He could easily be at 230 by next year.
MLB - Johnson - sounds like he is dropping a few more pounds as well which should benefit him. He has good instincts but needs to get a little quicker to be dominant

CB - j Coleman - I think he is ready to lock down one side. He started coming on last year.
CB - grey - he has the speed and I think with another year in he program he gets the nod. Top end speed is really good and the old staff saw him as an up and comer and I think it is clear at this point that the defensive side was lost last year. Athletically this kid is special.

SS - McNeil - no question in my book. Willing tackler and played well enough as a true freshman on a poorly coached defense
FS - Randolph - if healthy he starts. If not then moore
Stopes reading at maggett DE. He is to laggitt for that

No need for apologies, really I was just plugging in "body types" as Dooley so often said. Does that make me qualified to be a talking head on ESPN?

You have to overuse the phrases "opportunity balls" and "process" while still being referred to as"precious" by your mother in public before you are ESPN worthy. Can't forget asinine analogies from WWII and using Bruce Hornsby and the Range songs as your philosophical base. There's also the part about being an ass to most everyone while totally sucking at your job. You've got some serious work to put in before you're ready for "The Show". Best of luck.

I thought I could get by with a statue of an orange dog, coupled with some fast twitch and hot sauce. You are right, I need to rethink my "process'. Maybe I should hire Chuck Smith to consult.

Or, I'll see what Charlie Baggett is up to these days...what a waste, I can't believe I'm still mad about that.

That man earned a life sentence of loathing from me. As long as there's breath in my lungs, it will be there.

Agree with most of what you said BUT you could not be more wrong about Maggit. He played the entire 2012 season with a nagging injury. Dont know if you realize what its like to try to cut, start/stop and play football with Turf toe but it is not easy . Look at the play he made against NC state the only game he was healthy for this season . if healthy Curt will be a major part of the defense in 2013 and fully expect him to be 1st or 2nd team All SEC . when its all said and done Curt Maggit is a 1st or 2nd day draft pick. He has a higher upside thn anyone on this roster right now.

I think I can pull this off! Career change incoming!!

The 4-3 doesn't have a NT. In base, you have a 3 technique on the strong side and a 1 technique on the weak side.

You are correct but the 1 tech is also called nose so you both are correct. Also is Jordan Williams not a factor in this at DE and Christian Harris at LB?

Never heard it referred to as a NT in a 4-3 even when defense was my job. Doesn't really matter. Semantics, I suppose.

I hear Maybin will get a shot at RB. He would likely redshirt or play only special teams otherwise

Exactly what I was thinking, all the way down to the great play at nc state and playing w turf toe. I see vereen, Bynum, or Harris taking a lb spot this year, maybe 2 of them. We need to get more speed on the field. Possibly brewer subbing for aj against fast teams running spread, aj playing MLB against smash mouth teams. Our lack of pass rush has me hopeful o'brien will take a spot from couch or Big Mac. They haven't been able to get to the qb as of yet. Improved play from the de's should help that. I'm hoping Carr takes Jacques' spot. He hasn't produced very much either. Get all these younguns on the field and take our lumps. I doubt they'd end up 107th in the country in total d.

We're definitley short at DE, I'll admit that and maybe in terms of quality depth at LB...so yes injuries there would leave us in a bad spot. I have high hopes for Randolph this year and that would really help the back end.

As for speed, I'm gonna get laughed off the board for this but here goes. They didn't know where to go and if you don't know where to go, you think, and if you have to think, you play slow. Not to mention you're out of position and you know you can't get there so you half ass it. While I'm not up to date on every DB's 40 time coming out of high school, I can't imagine we are recruiting DB's and LB's that run 5.0 and that's what it looked like. To me, it's on the staff, because the year before the bulk of the D, didn't look that slow. Angles sucked, tackling sucked, coaching sucked.

When the players see the staff mailing it in, then they are inclined to do the same, void of leadership and that is what happened last year sans Pittman's OL and Grahams RB's.

Great post and analysis...you don't get that slow in one year

Having a true Free and Strong safety will help the secondary. Not that switching BS Sal was trying to run.

I would say that Brewer or Maybin will start at OLB and that McNeil and Randolph will be the starting safeties.

I will say that I will ............. take anything as long as it does not remind me of anything that was 2012 UT defense.

My fat buddy who I play beside was the nose tackle. I am excited for our defense!

If they are big enough, they can call it whatever they want. :)

Not sure I am excited, but I am certainly more optimistic about it than if we were still trying to force a 3-4 on guys more suited to a 4-3.

I can't wait for the changes this year.

There's no way a unit returning that many starters/experience goes from #28 to #107 in one year with that offense unless its coaching. So there's no doubt in my mind there will be massive improvement I'm not expecting better than 50 to start off CBJ 1st year.
