Let's Talk Defense

Still lacking overall team speed... Dooley did a horrible job with this.

We could be faster, but when you decide that DTs, DEs, and LBs have to be 20-25lbs bigger to fit a new 3-4 D, you are decideing to sacrifice speed. I think this move "made us slow"...not to mention the players were so poorly coached in the new scheme that they were always out of position and taking bad angles. Think about it, we had DTs playing DE! and any team that gets as little preasure on the QB as we got is going to be slow in the secondary.

A bit of a "tweener"...could make a killer LB in Nickel or Dime packages and would be effective off the edge in those as well. I think that is one way Chief used Honey-Badger at LSU in nickels. Also, Saban uses different personel in passing situations. A 6ft 220lb "DB" can give us that flexability and athleticism. I would love to see him breathing down AJ Mcarrons blind side!:)

I agree. He's kind of like a poor man's Kevin Burnett. Switched from FS to LB while at UT and flourished.

also agree with the suggestions of Brewer at WLB. He's a classic too big and slow for safety type to move up to LB and be productive.

I was at Tin Roof this Saturday and talked to Willie Bohannan for a few hours and he said the player on our team that he was most excited about and though had the most potential to be great was Jordan Williams. This guy could be a huge playmaker for us this year and he should thrive in the new defense.

What about Justin King. He is sized for a 4-3 OLB. He didn't fit Sal's large and slow type so he was stuck on offense. Any chance this guy is moved to D?

Also have to take into consideration that you play faster when you know what you're supposed to be doing....everyone was lost under sal

I think he has the size, but to me the problem is that he's never played anywhere but DB. Usually those guys who move up to LB have at least some experience as a linebacker, like JRM.

The one player on D that I want to see excel is Byron Moore. This kid was a JUCO stud coming out and chose us over the Hurricanes. Seemed lost last year. Always would come into the scene after the guy was in the endzone. Sunsorry was pitiful.

Selected defensive players from 2013 Roster. A lot of these guys were young or injured. If we get healthy and can coach these guys up, I think some of the younger guys could have a break out year, especially in filling the WLB spot.
