Open letter to Tennessee football fans
To the Editor:
On behalf of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association and the City of Dallas, we congratulate the Tennessee Volunteers on their impressive 38-7 victory in the 69th SBC Cotton Bowl Classic.
We also want to thank the Tennessee fans that followed the Vols to Texas. You helped make the entire week preceding the game a rousing success for our city.
Volunteer fans can take pride in their players, coach Phillip Fulmer, President John Petersen and Athletic Director Mike Hamilton. These gentlemen represented the University of Tennessee and the SEC with the utmost class and professionalism. We enjoyed every minute of the Vols' stay in Big D.
The SBC Cotton Bowl appreciates its long-standing relationship with the University of Tennessee. This marked the Volunteers sixth appearance in our game. On April 20, Tennessee greats Andy Kozar and Hank Lauricella will be inducted into the SBC Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame for their outstanding performances in the Vols' first Classic appearance in 1951. We invite you back to join us for that special celebration.
Again, congratulations on a successful season, and thanks for helping make this year's SBC Cotton Bowl a true "classic." We hope to see Tennessee back in Dallas very soon.
