He definitely has improved since coming to UT, but his peripherals were there. That's what is most important when judging a baseball player's future potential on.

The college season is so short that ERA can be deceiving.

This is the answer. ERA isn't a great stat for judging performance anyway. Much less so for such a short college season.

Anyone who averages 13.7 strikeouts per 9 has overpowering stuff. We'll see if he can limit the walks and HR/FB shenanigans in SEC play. That will tell the tale.
