Dampen Obama's Appeal.

Mitt Romney has spent months selling himself to the Republican base. Now, Barack Obama is working overtime trying to re-sell himself to his base of voters age 18-29.Team Obama knows that hard times and the growing libertarian leanings of young voters will make them a more difficult target than four years ago.

The problem isn't Libertarian leanings. It's that Obama isn't new, fresh and cool anymore.

This certainly has something to do with it.

It's not like 18 year olds know a lot about politics, anyways. I think all these 'get out there and vote' campaigns are silly. Seems like it would make more sense to get out and there and find out what's going on.

It's insanity. We get a "Rock the Vote" movement every 4 years . . . and then they sit at home.

i was Libertarian four years ago and didn't want Obama. Didn't want McCain either, but his views made a lot more sense.

I think social libertarian is more accurate here. A lot of ron paul supporters my age gravitate towards his views on drug legalization and national defense more so than anything else.

No one should ever be encouraged to vote. Anyone who is not willing to take the initiative or care about such things without being 'motivated' doesn't need to be voting.

I enjoy voting for some sick reason. Gary Johnson was a Republican during his governor tenure and at the beginning of the GOP race. He's only on the Libertarian ticket because the GOP is just D's who want to spend money on their own lobbyists.

I think that's definitely more accurate.

Hey, some of the youth does care. I'm not 18 but would be considered "youth". A lot of people I am around are definitely educated. Arguably more so than the older crowd brainwashed by CNN, Fox and books put out by Sarah Palin and Glenn beck.

I think young people hated Bush so much that they thought Obama was the answer. Now they realize he is not and are really looking deeper at the issues and gravitate towards RP

I think the apathy of voters barely old enough to vote is beneficial. Wisdom comes from experience. Youth don't want to hear that (I sure didn't). But its true.

I agree with this and most likely they will gravitate towards the couch on election day.

Political Science was my minor at UT, and I look back now with embarrassment with some of the arguments I made in class.

I have a 22 year old (graduates Sat!!!!!) and just from my observations of his freinds and classmates they tend to be more conservative than I would have thought.

To me the worst generation to inhabit this country are to now 50 to 65 year olds, and yes my parents are in that age bracket. Then mine the 35 to 49 yo's, or the bicycle helmet generation as I call us.

I'm not saying all young people are stupid or uneducated. I'm only 21 as it is. However, in my experience, most younger voters only have a superficial understanding of a lot of issues. I don't mind people encouraging the teens and college students to get involved with politics, but I think it's funny that attention is focused on voting instead of actually finding out what's going on.

I think it's a regional thing, because here his strict constitutionality, and fiscal responsibility are what sells to the young voters.
