Wow, Liberty’s defense is just having its way with Wake’s offensive line.

Liberty threw 3 picks in the first half and gave up 20 points, but they’ve been all over, regularly hitting Wake’s QB and now he’s got happy feet.

There’s no running game to help, it’s all on the back of a QB with happy feet, and their defense is starting to get gassed.

23-20 Liberty with 5:52 left in the 3rd quarter.

Happy. Feet.

Hartman throws an interception around the Liberty 40 on a deep pass.

Wake Forest has 0 first downs in the second half and 13 total rushing yards in the day.

TOP: Liberty - 26 min, WF - 15

Great defensive line play. Pretty much the only way Wake Forest has been able to rush for positive yards has required a holding penalty as well.

TD Wake Forest. After forcing a fumble and returning it to the Liberty 3, on 3rd and goal Hartman finds a WR in the back of the endzone for a TD.

30-23 Wake Forest with 9:14 left in the game.

On 4th and 7! Salter scrambles all over the field before eventually throwing a 39 yard TD to an open man at the 5 to tie it up 30 all with 5:50 left in the game.

TD Wake Forest. Pretty drive results in a 3 yard TD run to make it 37-30 Wake Forest with 3:39 left in the game.

3rd and 9 and Liberty makes it to the Wake 30.

That WR Douglas is one heck of an NFL prospect.

Wake Forest picks it off in the endzone on 4th and 4 but on the way down Liberty’s WR rips it out of and knocks it into his teammates hands!

37-36 Liberty and Freeze is going for 2

SO MUCH stupid coaching these days.

Wake recovers the onside kick. 37-36 with 1:11 left in the game.

(It looks like the ball didn’t even go 10 yards and one of Wake Forest’s returners ran up to try to get it…luckily for him, they got it.)

Agree in general. I’m less of a fan of going for 2 when you’ve been keeping up with them and you’ve gassed their defense.

That said, I sort of am starting to wonder if it’s maybe become a more favorable decision with how dramatically the OT rules changed over the last few years.

Like, it’s one thing when you’re going to repeatedly be getting 1-2 series of 4 downs against them in recurring overtime periods…it almost feels like it becomes another when you’re going to be in the “only one chance, single play” period situation OT now is?

Never let the game come down to the result of a single play whenever you don't have to do so.

Posted in another forum that I think going for 2 was right call here. Wake is more talented at most positions and has the depth to play more downs at a high level. Flames were in position to take a shot, which is about all they could really hope for.

If Wake was so much more talented, then they would have already put the game away decisively.

If you’re in a David vs Goliath situation and you’re David, you go for the kill shot cuase you know you ain’t gonna win by trading body blows.

Did you watch Liberty’s last two posessions on offense? They were very fortunate coming up aces on multiple gambled downs. Wake is clearly the more talented roster.

Final score: 37-36 Wake Forest.

First Wake Forest sellout crowd at a September game since 2006.

They just make it out of homecoming weekend alive…with Clemson looming next weekend.

Very valiant effort by Liberty. Salter and Douglas are going to be fun for their fans to watch this year. 437 total yards on offense and only 21 rushing yards allowed by their defense. I wouldn’t have gone for 2 and/or run a double reverse, personally.

LOL at Wake Forest being referred to as Goliath. That's hilarious!
If you are Liberty, any top 20 team is Goliath. Sounds like you have an issue with Liberty, or their coach, or maybe you just don’t like Christians. Whatever the case, your hate has blinded you. God bless.

LOL. Nice jump in logic. I'm a Christian. I have no problem with Liberty, and I have no hate. You conveniently assume that anyone that disagrees with you is filled with hate. They must be because you're clearly so brilliant. I have a problem with stupid coaching decisions, and it has spread like wildfire over the last 10 years.

That’s an interesting thought. Like the phrasing, too.
If you keep drawing the game out and give your opponent a chance, they will often beat themselves. Teams that are heavily favored feel the pressure of expectations, and that will often cause them to make mistakes.
