As much as CPF is liked or disliked. No Coach should get a lifetime contract at any school. Look what is happening at Penn St with Joe Pop. He has a Lifetime contract. First 32 years or so of coaching there he had 1 losing season. Now he is guarenteed of a 4 in the last 5 years. It is time to go. Great coach but just sit back ans watch the game.

would not like to see CPF do the same thing. Renew every 5 years

I agree with bdbaggins. No coach should be given a lifetime contract.

I think Phil Fulmer is great, and I believe he is the second greatest coach in Tennessee history (next to General Robert Neyland, of course). But I believe he should be given only a contract renewable every five years. I don't believe any coach should be given a lifetime contract.

We agree on days when the Tide aren't messing up our chances at another National Championship......

I think Bdbaggins will know what I'm talking about......

Neyland's teams won 2 Southern Conference Championships and 5 SEC Championships, 4 MNC and 1 undisputed National Championship. His record at Tennessee was 173-31-12 (.829), which includes 2 unbeaten streaks of 33 and 28 games.

To compare, Fulmer has won or tied for 5 SEC East divisionals (soon to be 6), 3 appearances in the SEC Championship Game (soon to be 4), 2 SEC Championships and 1 undisputed National Championship. His record is 121-29 (.807), of which his longest unbeaten streak is 14 games.

The Canes and the Tide are open minded fans. At least if you talk to the right ones

you 2 are both class acts that represent your programs well, glad to have both at the Volnation..... and CPF is a great coach but a lifetime contract is a bad deal for any program...look at Penn St. Paterno is a great coach but he should have bowed out gracefully 5 yrs ago.

Joe Pa should have followed Florida State's and Miami's lead and joined a weak football conference instead of the Big 10. The MAC would have been good for Penn State. Then after dominating that league for a decade, like FSU and Miami, Penn State could make the jump to a bigger conference.

If JoePa truly cared about the program, then he would step down and let the team begin to rebuild with some new blood. I think Joe's #1 concern right now is Bobby Bowden, and where their legacies will line up. He still thinks he can finish with more career wins than Bobby. Just my :twocents:

That is an absolutely horrible situation. It's like everyone knows it's time except JoePa. The administration should be shot for not working out a set retirement package years ago.

Something has really got to happen. They surely just can't sit and watch much longer while their program goes down the crapper. I don't even like Penn St. and I hate to see it happening.

Maybe all the non-Big 10 BCS coaches should get together and hold an intervention to try and convince JoePa to retire so that Penn State can return to being something other than a freebie for the rest of the Big 10.

An intervention...

That just might work.
