Hmm, I can't imagine why we aren't in the Top 25..

Doesn't he have us rated #17 in the magazine?

Or is it just out of the top 25......

I get my Phil Steele and Lindy's mixed up............

no suprise there....3 SEC teams in the top 10....noticeable abscence for UT and Bama....UGA outside the top 10...but not too much i can disagree with on that poll....

Well, he has ND at #1. We might not be able to disagree with much, but we can hate it.

We'll have our chances to prove them and all the rest of the football world wrong no doubt.I like being the underdog.UT seems to always play extra hard.

OWB,
yeah, i CAN agree with that....not really fired up about OSU being ranked that high either....

perfect scenario for me is to have Texas Beat OSU and then TX get beat by OK and someone else....and then OSU lose to Michigan or something....ND to lose to USC, USC to lose to Cal, CAl to lose to UT and everyone at the end of the season with 1 or 2 losses each....

no more clear cut 1 vs 2 crap. i want real contraversy!!!!!

No surprise. This is the way the rest of the world sees our program right now.

from a poll on the other side of that page...

Which football conference is the strongest in the NCAA?

Atlantic Coast Conference: 12.8%
Big East: 3.8% Big East
Big 12: 11.5% Big 12
Big Ten: 19.6% Big Ten
Pac-10: 7.7% Pac-10
Southeastern Conference: 44.5%

I favor optimism and I hope at least the Vols do too (which is really all that matters here). :dunno:

from a poll on the other side of that page...
while i'm not going to argue with it, i do think the ACC has made considerable strides of late...of course this year, i expect them to take a hit...NCSU, MD, VA, WF, Duke, and GT should all be pretty bad.

UNC won't be great, but i think they have an opportunity to be better than they have been under Bunting. CLemson the same....but both could be bad, you never know.

VT, BC, Miami, FSU should all be decent, but don't know that there is a NT contender in any of them (unless Miamia or FSU are undefeated at the end)?

i would expect FSU to win it again this year....

the Big 12 may be really bad...TX, OK should be pretty good, NB by what i read should be better, but OK or TX will win the conf. as usual. the rest of the league wont' be any good.

The Big 10...hmmm....i have no faith in Iowa. I think Mich is in the same boat as TN...could be good, but have no faith in 'em right now...i look for PSU to be down a bit this year, and OSU probably to win the conf.

the Pac 10....hard to say USC is not going to be good, but Cal could contend as could ASU....dont' know much about the rest of the conf. but i'd say those are your top three...I'm sure Milo could give us his take on the Pac 10 without twisting his arm.

Big East...WVU is likely...but could see L'ville there as well...only way WVU has a shot at NT is to go undefeated...which could happen.

The SEC could be really top heavy...LSU, Auburn, UF, and UGA are likely suspects for conf title....then you have uncertainties at UT, Bama, USC (who could win it if things fell right)...and the dark horse imo in ARK...for any in the SEC to really be in NT contention, i think you'd have to have LSU, Aub, or UF go undefeated...i don't think any of them get in with 1 loss, and i could see all of them with more than 1 loss. I think UGA finishes 3rd in the East.

TX--Big 12 champ
Aub--SEC champ
OSU--Big 10 champ
FSU--ACC champ
USC/Cal--Pac 10 champ
WVU--Big East Champ

NT--TX v ND

I keep repeating myself on this, but after 12 straight with no off week, Auburn does not win the SEC....
that is certainly valid...12 weeks straight is tough, but when you look at their schedule, they don't have any real "murderer's row" stretch of games....

they get WSU And MSU before LSU at home.
then it's Buffalo and USC and ARK before the UF game
Then it's Tulane, Ole Miss and Ark ST before the UGA game and Bama game...

they only have two times during the year where they have somwhat back to back tough games....ARK and UF and UGA and Bama....

And by my count, playing Buffalo, Tulane and Ark St is probably equivalent to having 3 weeks off....imo. During those three games they should be able to rest folks some, and if they were to have any unfortunate injuries, prior to those games, it shouldn't hurt them too bad if those players didn't play in those games....

By all counts there 12 game season is really about 4 games...LSU, Bama, UGA and UF....

I understand about the Battle Bird's propensity for scheduling cozy Saturdays on the Plains. But the team still has to practice and do all the every week things that a team must. With no off week, the drain should not be ignored.
There will be a price I think. Even with the less than heroic scheduling...

yeah, don't get me wrong, 12 games is still 12 games, but i'd have to think that TT has some kind of plan on how to rest some of his guys during the season, and i would think it would involve the weeks before one of those games....

I disagree that ND will be competing for a championship next year. Weis worked his NFL Voodoo magic last year, but now the other coaches are ready for a charlie weis coached Notre Dame. He has good recruits, but rarely do Freshmen come in and make a huge difference. I see them losing a couple games.

they may, but if their D gets any better, they could be a lot of trouble....i don't see them getting beat too badly...if they lose a couple of games, they should be along the lines of like 35-31 or something....they should be able to move the ball and score a lot.

SEC top to bottom

1. Auburn
2.LSU & UT tie
4. Gators
5.Dawgs
6Ark. & USC tie
8.BAMA
9.Miss. ST. & Ole Mississippi tie
11. Cats
12. Commode Doors

I think UT and Auburn are underrated and the Gators are a little overrated. I don't see GA nearly as good considering their QB situation. I feel they are the most overrated team in the conf. At least I hope so since my wife is from Atlanta and we have a lot of relatives who are big Dawgs fans.
