Linebackers we are targeting?

I had the same thought today, where are our LB commits? Are we going to get LB's from the transfer portal so we can have some film on them against college talent?

After research I see Elijah herring and kalib Perry are the 2 current 2 commits. However, I feel we need more depth there. Any big names in portal we are targeting?

Becoming a large hole on our roster. Both Herring and Perry are projected as OLB, meaning we have nothing in the middle right now.

I was told Banks and Beasley are very good SEC LBs 😂😂😂😂😂.

On a serious note, gonna have to look to the portal and JUCO. The portal is hit and miss. Hopefully you get a good player from a respectable program. But to get the LBs we need to make a serious splash in the SEC, we are gonna have to start winning big games.

Have to. I think Mohan and Willis will be good but who knows. Both need to gain 10 pounds

I am guessing that the lack of depth in our HS targets and not tying up our counters on guys down our board indicate we are saving them for portal solutions at this position. Though still a crapshoot, the numbers of entries in this first year of ONE TIME may well be our best shot for our particular needs at LB. Last year's LB solution did not work out, but the menu should have a range of talent and eligibility options and will probably be growing as bowls are completed and school terms end. The lack of panic by the staff has kept me off the edge of the bridge.

Our staff cannot be involved with guys not yet in the portal, but our needs can be networked by players and others to maybe trigger some desired entries. Coaching and scheme changes alone might put some talented D1 guys in the portal. I hope we can earn some of those 7 possible transfer additions by our guys in the portal getting in and academically eligible at other D1 schools. Getting some transfers in by spring ball would be big. If we have room under the 85 we can take some additional short term risks here and other positions. Roster management has entered a new realm.

They are both ILBs in Tennessee’s 4-2-5 defense. Tennessee really doesn’t have OLBs in this defense.

Do you believe that we have enough guys on the roster that can step up for this next season or do we need to try and get some experienced guys from the portal for the near term?

I really haven't heard much on any linebackers we are targeting. I have only seen DB's and D-lineman that we are targeting. What are some names we are targeting from high school or in the transfer portal at the linebacker position? Go Big Orange!!!
Maybe Heup and Co. are taking the Chavis approach, turning DB’s into LB’s, LB’s into DL...
We’ll worry about who to turn into DB’s once we cross that bridge.
😎
GBO!!

Have you let the staff know of your concerns? I bet they're over there playing poker and not even interested in recruiting

It would seem to me they need at least one portal guy. As swchandler above says, Marley is a good candidate there. He's a little slow for WR or S, but fast for LB.
