I have been a Vol fan for longer than many on this forum have been alive. So I just wanted to throw in a little perspective here.

I was at the game in 1982, my freshman year at UT, when Majors defeated The Bear and the goal posts were torn down (what a night). I was in New Orleans in 1985 when the Vols crushed Miami (suck-it Jimmy Johnson). Several years later, I watched as Majors was replaced by Fulmer.

Life goes on.

I watched Peyton Manning announce he was staying for his senior year. I was at the Ark game in 1998 for the “Fumble” and at the “No-Sir-Ree” game against Florida. What a year that was! I was in the Swamp in 2001 when we ran Darth Spurrier out of town (still love ya Travis Stephens). Watched my Vols defeat FSU in 98 for the NC (Al Wilson I’ll never forget you). A few years later I watched as Fulmer was replaced by “The Unnamed Guy” who torched our program on the way to USC and then get replaced by DD after only one season.

Life goes on.

I watched Don Devoe defeat mighty KY with an undersized center named Howard Wood who man handled Sam Bowie (if I remember correctly). I watched Dale Ellis play in Stokely (fluid grace in motion). I then watched Devoe get replaced by Wade Houston, Kevin O’neal, Jerry Green and Buzz Peterson.

Life goes on.

I watched as Peterson was replaced by Bruce Pearl. I was courtside when we beat FL and Pat Summit led the cheerleaders, also waved at Peyton Manning who was there that night. I watched as Bruce Pearl led us to a Sweet 16 and miss a final four appearance by one point last year. I also watched his fall from grace and probable departure this year as well.

Life goes on.

I forgot to mention one thing. I watched almost all of these great, and not so great, events sitting next to my dad. Whether it was at Neyland, the Swamp, Stokely, or Thomson Boling, my dad was there with me. He was a rabid Vol fan and a great dad who loved his sons. We watched the 2008 TN KY football game from his hospital room. We buried him in February of 2009. I have all these wonderful memories because of him. Not a day has gone by, since his passing, that I haven’t laughed or cried thinking about the great times we had together.

Coaches, games, good times, and bad, come and go and although it doesn’t seem like it sometimes, one thing I have learned in the past 3 years.

Life, does indeed, go on!

Nice post. Sounds like memories of my grandfather and I. Hardest basketball and football season I've ever had this year.

Really really nice post. You are blessed. And, you've articulated very well how I explain my insanity to many of my friends who don't understand how I can love a sports program so much and get so crazy during games. It's about those memories you make and great times you have with those you love, in Orange! Life does go on, and there are new great memories to be had. If he goes, and he sure looks like he will, I will really miss Bruce Pearl. He has made tremendous mistakes and the sequence of events has taken us from a top 10 team to a cautionary tale, but I am very thankful for the fun times his talent and abilities gave all of us. Thanks Bruce!

Good post. . .love to hear about traditions that are built and passed on. My dad used to take me to every football game since the time I was five. We didn't agree on much, but we always watched the vols together. He has Alzheimer's now and can't follow sports, and I miss sharing that with him. Generations of Vol fans sharing their love of UT makes being a vol great, not one coach. If we suck we suck, but I will always have love for the Vols.

nice poem Walt Whitman
(You gotta admit, the phrasing followed by life goes on reminds you of a poem)

Im not worried about the BB situation, like I said yesterday my first "love" is UT Football.
Im just glad all of its over....

But our basketball program won't go on without Pearl!!!

The way the media plays the music for Bruce Pearl's crime you would think they want to send him to the electic chair because a fatal injection wouldn't be enough. I guess noone else has ever made a mistake, right Mr. Hamilton? Coach Tressel? UT's punished Pearl, the SEC has punished Pearl, the media has been non-stop on punishing Pearl, NCAA why don't you just shoot him and get it over with, put him out of his misery so the gladiator fans can see the lion kill one more. Well, that's what you want isn't it NCAA? Just take that 2 million page rule book and behead him! The hypocrisy of it all!
