me and my brother were talking and I am curious as to what we are goin to to with all our WRs next year. Im sure kiffin is preaching to all these recruits about early playing time and that is why they are choosing us over other big time schools. NUKE is probably upset because he was promised a big role in our offense and things arent going as planned. I am afraid we will have a lot of unhappy players next season as we already have 4 wrs commited and we will have everyone back but hancock. NO ONE will want to redshirt and they cant all play next year.

i know we need these guys bc depth is a big factor while building a program.

i hope kiffin can keep all these guys happy

spreading the ball around is good but worrying about getting the ball to a certain guy x amount of times isnt good at all.

Meline may end up on the D...things will sort themselves out. We didn't sign any real game changing, downfield WR's in 09, IMO...Teague and Nuke should be good in the slot, but it will probably be Ambles, Thompkins and Milton competing with Moore and Jones for PT.

I'm sure Kiffin fills them in on what he is trying to do at UT. He doesn't need to keep people happy as he has made it clear that he will play the best players. The players just need to work their butts off when they get here.

It's not like basketball where you can have a 1-and-done....it can, and in most cases, take 3-4 years to develop these kids into the starting depth we are looking for. Basically, not everyone plays all 4 years.

Ya i agree, its just a matter of making these kids understand that because they are coming here to play early

USC stacks 4-5 star kids like firewood. He knows what it takes to keep the ones happy that he needs to. Was the jist of this thread to stop recruiting? Whats your suggestion?

You have to think about keeping fresh legs in. With WR's if 6-7 know the system really well then all the better. A guy can run some routes and sub out... will keep the Db's guessing and keep fresh speed out there... The NFL does it. Why should we just be content with 4 guys when we can have 7-8. Look what happened at the beginning of the season this year when we had to start a bunch of froshs'. We had some bad plays due to lack of knowledge of responsibilities and no cohesiveness between qb and wr.

Basically you are recruiting for 3 positions. I think we will probably also take Dunkley to make 5. Kiffin is looking for the "game breaker." The more top prospects he brings in, the greater chance of finding one. Also, I wonder if the staff is guarding against someone not making it in because of grades?

Also, we have different type guys coming in. Milton and Thompkins are the big receivers that Kiffin likes. Dunkley is more of a slot guy. I think 9 is a pretty good number of receivers total. Until we get the guys we are looking for we will probably over recruit. I guess we will probably have 11-12 fighting for spots going in to next fall (depending on whether Austin Rogers gets a medical redshirt). It is evident that we need some special teams help, so I would expect some of these guys to get play there. Having 3 or 4 guys fighting for each spot is not a bad thing, as it pushes the players to improve and play at their best.

I was just stating that this nuke situation could happen again IF it is about him being unhappy with his role. If you noticed i said that we need the depth. I was saying that i hope kiffin is letting these kids know that they will have to earn playing time and he isnt promising it

Tennvol he is indeed telling kids the same thing that P Carroll always preaches, the best player will play and the roster is fluid in terms of earning PT.

As far as guys being disappointed, I think Nuke has been surprised because of jealousy towards some guys who are in his same class, who he thinks he is better than when he is wrong. He is not strong enough to get open in some situations, and he is more a turnover threat than some other guys.

When we have Matt Milton here, I seriously doubt he will be in on more than 50% of the downs as a freshman, he will be a situational WR. When we line up Milton and Ambles for certain plays, you take whichever is in 1 on 1 with a smurf DB. Nuke catches a slant and brings you down the field some, you rip a few runs, use your FB or TE some but then get down to the goal line area and you put in a Milton and an Ambles and maybe a Green who has had another year to grow as a man in terms of strength and you let them either distract, or run block, or provide all kinds of awesome options for a giant QB to find his giant WRs who are able to jump and grab balls DBs cannot reach to knock down or pick.
