What changed in Jan 09 to make the numbers go up so much? I'm guessing it is a reporting issue rather than an 800% increase.

You mean Sept '09 according to the chart graph.
The "honeymoon" was over and BHO opened the gates to all that supported his election. No other way to look at it. His "economic council" was code for "what do I owe you for getting me elected?"

Yeah, you are right, I had Jan stuck in my head because I was trying to see what it was before then.

You may also be right on the other part, but I can't imagine how policy could be influenced by the shear number of visitors. The staff and principals can only talk with so many people per day. In December of 09, they had 118,373 visitors, which averages out to 3818.5 visitors per day. Obviously, some days were higher than others due to holiday parties, but still that is an incredible number of people to deal with. Assimilating their views, coordinating policy positions and adjusting plans accordingly is a tough process in Washington to begin with, attempting to do that for that number of people would be impossible.

I think the numbers are a result of either a different tracking system and they reflect what has always been happening at the White House, or they are a smoke screen to cover up the real influence peddlers.

donors want access......they are not actually being heard in most cases......but if they have what they feel is access to the Pres and his staff, most are happy

The article said that the main players are bringing large groups with them on most visits.....thay drives up the numbers.
