Despite a proclamation by ESPN's Todd McShay that Locker would/should/could be the first overall pick, a league source tells us that Locker didn't receive a first-round grade from the Advisory Committee.

The source concedes that Locker might have still be drafted in round one given the value of the position, but the source insists that McShay was flat wrong in his assessment of Locker.

"That's the problem," the source opined. "McShay is clueless. Up until three weeks before the 2008 draft, he said that [Kentucky's] Andre Woodson would be a first-round pick. He went in the sixth and is out of the league."

i must say i never understood why locker was considered a first round pick considering he's been a mediocre drop back passer.

Admittedly I haven't seen Locker play much at all (read: not at all), but I always got the impression he was the Pac Ten version of Tim Tebow, except a slightly better passer and slightly less effective runner? With that in mind, I too was kind of surprised to see him mentioned as a potential first overall pick.

he's somehwere like 5th in the pac-10 in passing efficientcy. he has a much better throwing motion and arm than tebow.

Once again proving that McShay and Kiper are entertainers, rather than scouts or analysts.

Locker's always been just a decent QB. NFL potential. He's big, pretty smart, quick and has a good arm. Needs some work, though.

Locker has 300,000 dollars from the Angels already.

He can do nothing but get better at UW. He's a helluva an athlete. It's also a proven fact that QBs that stay all 4 years do better in the NFL.

I saw Locker (and Kyle Boller) put one knee on the 50 yard line and throw the football through the goal posts. That is a big time arm fellas.

Throw in an 25 extra pounds and a nice sun tan and you have Jamarcus Russell.

Give me Peyton's brain over a big arm anyday.

I've seen several of his games and would concur here with a few edits/additions. Locker has had a situation like Crompton of sorts where there was alot of talent that didn't get developed early on by crappy coaching. Plus he was out most of last season with an injury, or maybe 07. There was huge expectations that have yet to play out, but the underlying talent is there.
