I checked to see if Chris Lofton was on any 2009 NBA training camp roster. I didn't see him listed with any team. I thought with his play during the summer camp with Boston that he'd get a look from some team. Any thoughts on this guys?

After a year in the Turkish desert, Lofton still has the same problems he had after his college career. He is a 2-guard who isn't quick enough to create his own shot, he isn't big enough to shoot over people, and he isn't either enough to guard anybody in the NBA.

Here's a quick quiz: Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, Manu Ginobli, Raja Bell, Rip Hamilton, Brandon Roy--which one of those guys does Lofton match-up with?

I liked Lofton, and wish him the best, but the fact of the matter is that with his limitations in size and athleticism, he just isn't going to be very coveted in the NBA.

Exactly....
He is just too slow and too small to make it to the next level....Most beautiful shot I have ever seen but not gonna see it in the NBA...

so Steve Kerr is a better athlete than Lofton? I don't think so, personally......seems like someone would want him for a gimmick 3-ball wizard, to come in and hit clutch shots...........:clapping:

I'm still surprised there is no market for this guy. He can at least come off the bench to shoot a couple of 3s. He has proven he can make long-range shots while closely defended.

So you think Steve Kerr could play with the players of Today's time???
You think he could run with guys like Chris Paul, Darin Williams, Chance Billups, Dwayne Wade,Rondo, J. Nelson, Tony Parker???

If JJ Reddick is not making it in the league what makes you think Lofton could?? Both were great 3point shooters but Reddick could get open and create his own shot...

My point about this thread is why isn't he even given a shot in training camp? I know he may not be an NBA player. I just can't believe there's NO teams that would at least give him a look through training camp. That's what shocks me really.

I mean we have guys in training camps that aren't as good of a player as Lofton. Definitely some that aren't the shooter like Lofton. This is what puzzles me & not that he would probably be cut during the camp or at the end somewhere.

Isn't Redick still with the Magic? Pretty sure he still is and he even saw some minutes in the playoffs.

Lofton's pros and cons have been well-documented, but it is still interesting to me that he isn't on a training camp roster. Many felt his summer league performance would at least give him a shot.

Reddick is still coming off the bench some for the Magic..He has fallen out of favor with Van Gundy for one reason or another. Not sure.

On Mr Lofton I totally agree. With the deadly three ball always on his mind, I do not see why some team takes a chance on him. For example, my lowly Memphis Grizzlies. WHY THE HECK NOT!! What would you lose. Maybe he cant hang defensively with some of the other examples on this thread..But what an upside in heart and accuracy. Maybe I am just to homegrown and love His style and play. But he would look good out there with Mayo, Thabeet, Iverson, Gasol, Randolph, Gay.....

Maybe you've got a point there. If that big Iranian dude can get a roster spot, there is hope for anybody, I suppose.

Oh Reddick is on the team but he does not get much playing time...He cant play defense at all....and I said that because Reddick is better then Lofton....so if Reddick is not a serious contributor then what makes you think Lofton would be??

That is the big problem with Lofton he might hit a couple 3's but he would get abused on the defensive end of the court...and if they put anybody on him who was quick like a point guard typically is....Then he would never get open for a shot. I love Lofton he was absolutley amazing to watch in college but he needs to just stick with the team in Spain....

Honestly they are about the same. Biggest difference is Kerr is 6'3 1/2 and Lofton is about 5'11. Some NBA guards could not leave their feet and still have Lofton not block it. There is a reason NO teams want Lofton. I hate it for him because being short and slow is something that he can't fix but thats the way it is. People Lofton is not an NBA player, sorry, get over it.

Your two comments on this thread are horrible. First of all, you act like Steve Kerr played in the 50's. I still remember him playing in what many call the greatest days of the NBA. Yeah, garbage talent with Jordan and Pippen - he'd never make it in the league now.....

And JJ not being that good? I know he isn't a star by any means but last year in the playoffs he was matched up with Kobe and shut him down (not literally but shut down for Kobe which is still better than most).

And you said Lofton would never get open? I don't remember him needing to be open to shoot anyways. Anyone remember him hitting a 3 over Durant? The best part of his game is shooting with a defender in his face.

I'm not saying he is an NBA star but he is a good enough shooter to play in the league. You are telling me that Daniel Gibson for the Cavs is that much better than Lofton? Watch the people coming off the bench.....they aren't exactly dominant.

So why isn't he on a team? You think one of the NBA GMs would see all this talent that you see. People, he's just not good enough.

Yes, Lofton has NBA talent, and Stephens is better than Crompton. Volnation says so.

I'm not saying he is anything more than a role player. However, there are numerous stories of GM's missing on talent. Goodness, our lone NBA player, Watson, who is turning out to be a good pro was completely missed for years. Before Lofton's senior year he was projected to go in the first round of the draft (a poor year that was hampered by his illness didn't help his status the following year). I guess all the experts were wrong then.

All I'm saying is that Lofton is a good enough shooter to get in the game.

Evidently he isn't. There isn't really an argument about whether Lofton should or shouldn't be in the NBA. He isn't. The reasons why have been spelled out pretty well.

He's an undersized, underquicked 2-guard without a particularly good handle. He can flat put it in the basket if and when he can find a shot. That hasn't equalled enough for him to break through, and he is going to have a tough time ever getting some GM to give up a roster spot at the end of the bench better used on a project, a defensive specialist, or a big banger that can occasionally eat fouls and minutes.
