Lone Star Showdown renewed?

I'll add that the State Government has no business trying to force it though.

In the end, I think they'll have to can Dodds before this ever gets close to happening.

I thought the Cotton Bowl would set this up, but Oklahoma being knocked out of the BCS by the MAC messed it up, if they were even considering it.
While the schools aren't playing, I figure any bowl with a chance to get the matchup would want it.

I don't think it would have been much of a reach for the Cotton Bowl to take Texas if Oklahoma had not been available.

I could see why aTm would push for this to happen soon. So they could actually beat Texas.

Why play Texas or Notre Dame? All your doing is promoting their own individual TV deals.

hahahah,,Piss on the longhorns. My take is that the legislator that is pushing the "must" game is a longhorn fan. He realizes that A&M is part of big boy football and that his beloved longhorns are being relegated to wallflower status. If they ever meet again, I hope A&M stomps the arrogance out of the longhorn network cheesecake & whine factory. Stay strong A&M,,you don't need tea party fruit nuts to say who you have to play. The longhorns made their bed. Arrogant idiots are stirring the straw. A&M tried to warn them. This is hilarious.

A&M is not pushing for it.

Bingo!!! It would be like 'bama having their own network and every time we played them in tuskville,,we would have to watch it on the 'bammer network. Or the gator network, etc. The longhorns sealed their own fate by being arrogant money grubbers. Now that the shiz isn't going their way they want to force a game. IMO, A&M should say thanks but no thanks, we have better teams to play.

I mean I don't see why the shouldn't play. There are rivals sec teams have, outside of the sec. Georgia-Georgia Tech South Carolina-Clemson and Florida-Florida State. All play the last game of the year every year and are in state as well. Texas and Texas A&M should do the same.

Why? Becuase our Government was not designed or intended to delegate who plays a game against someone else.

Not to derail your thread, but I am making my first trip to College Station on the 23rd to see the Vols play b-ball. I'm excited to see a game.

Its not like they dont have other issues to deal with. No need to create a "project" for sh!ts and giggles.

I'll try to go to that game. Lets meet up.
I'll have the wife and mother in law in tow (she is a huge sports fan, which is cool). I'd love to have a beer or two with you before the game.

We are making a day trip of it, any tips on parking, pre game activities, etc?

Sounds great. You'll want to go to North Gate prior to the game. The tailgating scene for basketball is pretty weak.

If I were in your shoes, I'd come in early enough to tour the campus a bit if you've never been. Plenty to see there including Kyle Field, The 12th man statue, The MSC, (take your hat off when yall go in), maybe even see the corps doing drills on Simpson Drill field, and we obviously have the Bush Library here which is basically on campus too if yall are in to that.

Eating/Drinking is whatever you'd like it to be. Further off campus, we've got great Wings places like the one owned by Former Aggie and NFL player, Mark Dennard. His place is Wings N More on University Drive. If you want a little more upscale dining, you'll have to venture off the well beaten path a bit more, although The Republic Steak House is also on University. Bring your wallet.

North Gate is your bar center basically, but there are some pretty good eats down there too. Depending on what kinda of mood you're in, the bar scene is pretty wide open. Traditional "Aggie" spots would be the Chicken, Fitzwilleys, Dry Bean Saloon, Dudley's, The Corner Bar...... those are the only places I go because I know the owners pretty well through business. That and we end up there most Friday afternoons.

You can park at NG in the parking lot behind it, or in the garage, but you gotta pay. It's cheap though.

As for Reed Arena, you wont have trouble parking at the gym actually. You may just have to walk a bit, but you cant get lost, its big and stands alone. While you're near, you should try to check out our newly renovated baseball field. Its right across the street from Reed. Cant miss it.

You'll have fun for sure, just let me know if you have questions on anything. I'd be happy to give you directions or any links.

What are yall interested in?

to add to that, as far as what most visitors do on NG, Fitzwilleys seems to be where we see the most of em. Not sure why, other than its big enough to see, big enough for a lot of folks, and the drinks are cheap. All the bars are in a row though and this just happens to be the first on that row. We see lots of guests there and at the Chicken.

I noticed thats a Saturday too so you wont have a ton of traffic to deal with mid day. The kids will be out and about, but theres just not a ton of pregame hoopla that time of day, for this team espeacially. We've been reminded we are a "football school" once again.

But I'll say this, when Billy was here, it was better.

It's a state institution.

Beats having busybody lawmakers who micromanage what teachers are permitted to say in the classroom.

Thanks for all the good info.

Maybe we can get together for a pre game beer.

I'll run some of this past the wife and see what she thinks.
