For those looking forward to this film make a note for next Christmas when Unbroken is scheduled for release.

Based on the ordeal of 1936 American Olympic runner Louis Zamperini. He survived 47 days at sea after his plane crashed of mechanical problems over the Pacific during WWII and then spent over two and half years as a POW under the Japanese.

The film is being directed by Angelina Jolie (In the Land of Blood and Honey)

Adapted by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen from the book Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand

I've been friends with one of Marcus' buddies back from college. He tells me that he is really just a normal dude and that he's never sought out any glory or adulation.

I hope to make the short drive one day to shake his hand in person. Clearly, he is one of our nation's heroes.

I saw it last night and thought it was really good. I thought it was tough to watch at times to see these guys who I admire and have known about for over 5 years actually have their story visualized and shown in the very honest, brutal way that it occurred. I thought Pete Berg and the cast did a great job and it was cool to see Luttrell in some of the scenes and have a very small speaking role.

My only issue with the film is how much it was trimmed from the book, not the SEAL training but the actual op. ML was actually gone for a week instead of the 3 days, the QRF guys coming in was also skewed, and his rescue was much different according to the book . I understand that it is a business, but I didn't think they needed to divert too much from the actual events to make it more interesting or heart breaking or heart racing. Overall, a great movie, a great tribute, and I did not find it to be a propaganda film like a fair number of media members and critics are claiming.

I'm with you. I understand the time constraints, but I was also hoping for the movie to show more of the Pashtuns and Pashtunwali. I thought that part of the book was incredibly fascinating.

I enjoyed the movie for its entertainment value. However, both the film and Luttrell present a grossly overestimation of the enemy force the SEAL Recona nd Surveillance team was facing. In reality, the SEALS were ambushed by a force of 8-10 of Shah's men. While four against 8-10, especially when ambushed, is absolutely terrible, it was not four SEALS against hundreds of dudes coming out from every nook and cranny in the woods, as both Luttrell and the movie depict it. But, neither the book nor the movie would have sold I guess with the truth...?

Anyway, entertaining rambo type shooter film. **** for historical accuracy.

Victory Point: Operations Red Wings and Whalers - the Marine Corps' Battlefor Freedom in Afghanistan: Ed Darack: 9780425232590: Amazon.com: Books

At worst, the 4-man team faced 20-30 dudes, as per Luttrell's actual after-action report. But, that has been scrutinized as highly inflated by many individuals who were involved in Red Wings and involved in the Valley. Further, even if one takes Luttrell's after-action report as true, then one must take Luttrell's account in his book as bull ****. Luttrell's accounts (after-action report and book) contradict. So, Luttrell, at least, is a liar, with regard to this event in his life. That being clear as day, I'll take Darack's much more researched and corroborated report.

Again, great rambo movie...**** for history and accuracy.
