VolNation, I've been a quiet beneficiary of the forums for years while I lived in Austin, TX. My personality isn't one to post in online forums, but y'all have all helped me keep up with the Vols from a distance and I'm super grateful.

I'm originally from Maryville and a few months ago, after 30 years in Austin, my wife and I moved back to the Knoxville area to be closer to family. One of the best things about the move is that I can go to games with my parents who brought me up on UT sports and see our kids more often, one of which is a sophomore at UT in the nursing program.

Through a very bizarre turn of events around the bama game, I ended up being interviewed by WBIR for a segment that appeared on the 5pm news broadcast yesterday. I also was interviewed by Trey Wallace for an article on outkick.com. 🤯

I thought y'all might enjoy the news segment and am linking it here. The video of the WBIR segment is at the top of the first linked page and Trey's article is the second link.

Go Vols!

I really envy you being able to get back to the motherland. Life had other plans for me, but thank God for the technology available these days (like this forum) to make it seem like I’m still truly a part of Vol Nation.
Absolutely. I travel a ton, so I definitely relate to your sentiment about the tech to stay up to date and sometimes watch the games from overseas. It's a blessing!

Outstanding!
I love going to games. I have raised my children in orange and they have both been to a few games. However, going to the games has priced me out. I am not crying or complaining just stating a fact. I can not justify spending that money anymore. College funds and retirement kind of get in the way. I used to be able to go with my wife for 1,200 to 1,500 bucks. You cant get a room for a night for that now.

It’s definitely a challenge. When we were in Austin we could stay with family on our visits which made a big difference not having to get hotels.

Now THAT is a "cool story bro", even if it did take you 17 years on here to post it. The best ones take time. ;)

I too so enjoyed going to at least a game or two per year but just can’t justify the expense anymore. Not bitching just stating a fact. The cost to attend outpaced our willingness and ability to make it happen. Funny thing is we are both more successful than ever so maybe it’s just a fiscally conservative mindset. Regardless, glad you made it back to God’s Country. Enjoy! Go Vols!!!!!!!!!

Very cool! I lived in Austin during the 2016 season. The high point of that period of exile was attending UT Alumni Association watch parties at a bar just off the Texas campus.

Moved there the first week of September and was back in Tennessee by February.

You definitely made it "home" faster than I did!

Gee, I used to think that having to walk to Neyland from the Lambda Chi Alpha house, 1848 Fraternity Park Drive, which was also the last house on the row, was a long walk. This guy wins!!! Done 20 hours of flying before but jimminy cricket - 30 hours??
