I googled this because I was almost sure that the ncaa record was longer than the NFL record. But to much surprise, according to wiki. a former UT kicker holds the record for the longest fg made in HS; Dirk Borgognone. Did anyone else know this? The kick was 68 yds.

He was a tall young man from Colorado high school that did set the record. He sign with Tennessee in the late 1980s. He never pan out and transfer to Pacific. I met him back when Tracy Hayworth played. I dont really know what happened but he didn't have the leg strength in college

I remember him kicking off but not handling FG duties.

Yeah, I remember when we signed that guy and I was so excited because of that record. But then he never kicked FGs, only kicked off and didn't get particularly great length on those either.

Could've sworn Russell Erxleben, who kicked for the Texas Longhorns back in the 70s, once hit a 67 yd field goal.

This is from the 1987 media guide. He signed in 1986, and apparently transferred after the 1987 season. It appears he lost the starting job to Phil Reich.

Did he use a tee?

he might have the record but do you know how bad you have to be to lose your job to Phil Reich??

Puzzling, but apparently it happened. There was a battle for the starting job in spring practice in 1987 (Carlos Reveiz had graduated), and Phil Reich emerged the victor.
