yeah, it's probably way to early to even start this kind of talk, especially with one, and probably more to come, coaching staff change. But, based on this year's lack of offensive, uh, play, and the losses we'll suffer on Defense...not to mention the not so special teams, what exactly are your early expectations for next year?

Cal--won't be a pushover, can't budget that as a win.
Air Force--should win that
Florida--they'll be much beter on offense by this time...
Marshall--we should win that
(conservitevly: 2-2 after 1st 3rd of season)
Memphis--should win that
UGA--will have qb ?'s, but they won't suck, and Richt has Phil's number
Bama--will have qb ?'s, but they wont' suck either.
USC--a full year for Spurrier to work with the offense..ugh.
(conservatively: 1-3 after 2nd 3rd of season, 3-5 on the season)
LSU--hm? should be pretty good, is Miles a good coach or not?
ARK--running game will be awesome, and D has to get better, and it's a tough place to play
Vandy--no cutler, no problem?
KY--should win that
(conservatively: 3-1 in last part of season, 6-6 on the season)

Maybe with a break or two against CAL, USC, UGA or Bama we're 7-5.

Does anyone really expect better at this point? And, to add to that, if next season plays out in this kind of fashion, does Fulmer's spot in the Big Orange Chair get H.O.T.?

I just don't think this will be a quick turnaround folks, we may be in for a 3-4 year span where we are middle of the road in the SEC at best. I'll refer you to "practice habits/coaching" thread as to why.

time will tell... :matrix:

With our #1 recruiting class, we should start seeing vast improvement by the second half of next season leading into the following year. But none of that matters if we dont get our quarterback problems figured out.

Well, that should be easy to do...just do the opposite of what we did this year...

We need to name a starter, and i really don't care at this point if it's Ainge or Crompton, in the Spring, and get him all the reps he can get with the #1 group of receivers. They need to develop timing and a relationship with each other, and that starts in the Spring and Summer.

That's where we screwed up last year as far as i'm concerned. You look at the drops and over throws from this year, and you almost think, man, have they never seen a ball thrown to them? Why can't he put the ball on the other side where he can get to it...etc That kind of stuff is done in hte off season, and Peyton was a perfect example of that. Not that i expect either one of these guys to be Peyton, but the work ethic can definitely be duplicated. And that will spread thruout the team...

While i don't care who is named, and i really do mean that, i would think that Ainge still gets the nod early. Let him be the No. 1 and work wtih these guys thru a sping, summer and fall camp and see what it does come fall...if he still can't get it done and is still making bad decisions, then yank him. Then there won't be any excuses. but give him a legitimate shot at it.

Cal--Pac10 pushover win
Air Force-- tuneup for Florida win
Florida--Meyer's offense still sucks in the SEC win
Marshall--more experience under new OC win
(easily: 4-0 after 1st 3rd of season)
Memphis--easy win win
UGA--Richt does have Phil's number, it'll be tough on the road
Bama--Fulmer doesn't lose 2 in a row to the Tide win
USC--Fulmer won't lose to USC again, with or w/o Spurrier win
(maybe: 3-1 after 2nd 3rd of season, 7-1 on the season.. although conceivably 8-0)
LSU--Vols pretty much own LSU historically win
ARK--they still suck win
Vandy--win
KY--win
(conservatively: 4-0 in last part of season, 11-1 on the season... but its not inconceivable to be 12-0)

Yes I do, because I do not have a short memory. I truly believe this season is an aberration rather than at trend. My goodness people, the Vols won 10 game the past seasons. The talent is there. Each season is different.... with its own chemistry.... and can't EVER see this many things go wrong to a talented team 2 seasons in a row.

I just don't think this will be a quick turnaround folks, we may be in for a 3-4 year span where we are middle of the road in the SEC at best.  I'll refer you to "practice habits/coaching" thread as to why.

I strongly disagree. The talent level at UT is too strong. And Fulmer will not allow the program to stay down. Every season after a "down" year (less than 9 wins) the Vols come back strong, each season with 10 regular season wins.

1994 Vols were 8-4, rebounded with 10-1 regular season record in 1995 (11-1 overall)

2000 Vols were 8-4, rebounded with 10-2 regular season record in 2001 (11-2 overall)

2002 Vols were 8-5, rebounded with 10-2 regular season record in 2003 (10-3 overall)

If the Vols go 8-3 next season, that'll be an improvement. :cross: The Florida game is always a toss up but Vols should win that one. UGA is always tough. Vols will be no worse than 2nd in the SEC East. :cross: With some breaks the "BIG ORANGE" could play for the SEC Championship. Could be a 9-2 season and top 10. :victory:

All Vol, i admire the optimism, and you do have reason to believe that...but in each of the seasons you mentioned, we DID GET BETTER AS THE YEAR WENT ON. A statement you cannot make this year.

Also during those years, we had no huge shake ups in the coaching staff.

Believe me, i fall in to that category of "look what we've done in the past" after a bad year mold too, but this year, it just feels different.

I don't know why, but i look around the SEC, and all i see is upside. I look at us and see stalemate.

the new OC will be a huge factor in all this, and my post was just based on TODAY...things should change, and change for the better, but you can't ignore the fact that this season is by far worse than any of the 3 you put up...
