Looks like the History Channel is butchering the Hatfield and McCoys history.

After the mini-series, which was incredible (seriously if you haven't watched the 3-part mini series of the Hatfields and McCoys then you are messing up in life) a show just premiered called "Hatfields and McCoys: White Lightning". It's a "reality show" (imagine that) that follows the present day members of both families. I was pretty excited to watch it. I watched it for about 5 minutes before I realized this is another bunch of cheesy scripted garbage like most other reality shows out there.

The things they say and do around each other aren't even borderline realistic. A shame considering what an intriguing bit of American history the two rival families represent.

The History Channel sold out long ago. It's about as much about history is MTV's about music

You've gotta have the crap filler programs to keep the lights on while they produce the few interesting series like Hs&Ms.

I just think the idea is so good. Document the two families and how they interact today. I really don't understand why in the world they would go the route of cheesy scripted "Lizard Lick Towing" nonsense. It's a shame.

Yeah, I would've expected a really classy, totally unscripted environment out of the network that brought us Pawn Stars. :p

spent a few weeks in Matewan back in the 90's on a service project. Interesting place to be sure. I would guess most of the real stuff they could show would get people in a whole lot of trouble so they make some drama up

A few years ago, i did some work on a 90 something year old lady's house down here in Montgomery. She said she was a direct descendant of the McCoy's. She told some interesting stories. She moved to another house, but I wonder if she's still alive

Nobody wants to watch a show about a bunch of people doing mundane ish like going to work and the grocery store. We live in reality. No point in watching true reality on TV.

I do see your point though.
