Searched and couldn't find a thread.

Who has gotten this, and on a scale of 1 to 13, how freakin awesome is it, besides the fact that they only digitally remastered the first film...?

My only worry is that by adding nearly an hour to the third movie, and similar chunks to the other two, that it's mind numbingly long, and I'll have to watch it in half-movie installments.

Theatrical versions are really really good. Very entertaining.

But, the extended editions add SO MUCH. It is unbelievably better. And that is from someone who loved the theatrical ones.

I always go into watching LOTR knowing that I am going to be there for a while, so what's an extra 30-45 minutes.

Lol I was pissed when the theatrical version of RotK ended anyway, so I guess you're right.

Probably a silly question, but the extended scenes are full theater quality and everything, right? I hate watching movies with "deleted scenes" where the transition is painful to watch, the video and audio quality goes to **** during the added scenes. It's not like that, right?

I think the Extended Versions are the only versions you should watch. The added scenes are awesome.

yes, you will never know when the additional footage is added unless you select a menu option that places an icon on the screen noting an extended scene.

Awesome. I ordered the box set last night from Amazon. It was cheaper on bluray ($79.99) than DVD (about $95 IIRC) due to a sale.... silly Amazon. I wanted to pick up the Star Wars Anthology as well, but $160 was a lot to dedicate to 2 movie box sets in one day.

You just made a wise purchase. I'm looking to buy those as well as soon as funds allow.

OMFG Kill me. I'm starting them next weekend with a friend who's never watched LotR, and I don't know if I can wait a full week after I get it to watch them.

We're watching 0.5 to 1 movie a weekend, so probably like 5 weeks.

I was thinking 1 bluray disc a week. Or a whole movie if he gets really into it.

I've seen each at least 5 times. Hard to stop watching once you start.

Great movie series, but the ending of RotK was one of the longest, most dragged-out movie endings in history. This is the theatrical cut I'm talking about as well, I got my stuff together and nearly left along with everybody else probably six times, until we all realized "oh, it's not over yet."

I wonder why the eagles didn't just fly them in to begin with.

Agreed. There were like 5 fade to black parts, and every time I would start to get up, and no not over.

Rotg ticked me off because of the weak portrayel of gondor.......gondor was the only reason men were still alive..........Numeanor!

I liked the ending, because I wasn't ready to let go, yet. So, it kinda let me off easy by going out gradually.

Similar to Band of Brothers. By the end, I was so attached to the characters, I needed that entire episode and a half to ease me out of wartime and back into civilian life.

Finally came in the mail. Can't wait to watch it. High quality box set. I wish it was metal, but still some quality stuff.

I am pissed that all the extra content is on DVDs. Oh well, I rarely watch special features anyway.

I want to take 3 days off and watch this, Band of Brothers and the Star Wars Anthology straight through in consecutive days.
