Based on this game. Almost makes me wonder how we would have played against bammer had he stayed healthy? They still didn't run the ball all that well in the second half, it was mostly Milroe.

Mizzou has a good QB...we had best be ready for that.

Can Mizzou QB play any better than Leery did?

That gameplan won't work with Missouri. I think Banks was banking on Leary making a mistake somewhere. The cushion on the receivers made it easy for him. That and he had all day to throw..
This is a Heupel philosophy, not Banks. Their plan was to stop the run and let them pass between the twenties. They did this at UCF a lot. In theory, KY can’t pass in the red zone. That theory proved wrong. As you mentioned, they also thought Leary would throw picks into the zone. Without Hadden, they’re going to figure out something very different for Mizzou. Hopefully Slaughter and Turnage will be full speed.

Missing Hadden reminded me of missing Banks last year at USCe...you could tell that the onfield guy that runs the D was not there.

Banks needs to.find that new general quickly.

Brady Cook is better than Leery at the QB pos. He not only has good recievers he is very adept at running with the ball and breaking your D down. We didn't get to Leery last night in a way to affect the game.If we don't get to Cook like that he will torch us !

Hard to affect the QB when the officials allow our rushers to be tackled with no holding calls...just sayin'

Banks and Martinez are coaching the secondary to not allow the big play. They are willing to give up anything but the over the top big play. That’s the only explanation for what we’ve seen. Banks wants the offense to drive the length and make a mistake or hold them to field goals. I don’t like it but I hope that’s what’s going on.

This times 10. If the refs had made those holding calls then we could have gotten to the QB and Leery wouldn't have had as much time to throw; plus putting the QB on his back a few times would have made him more inconsistent.

Cook may be better but he will not have a better night than Leary did last night. Leary was playing great football. Making the right reads, putting the ball in tight windows with (usually) good coverage. This is quite a line to put up for a guy who hadn't cracked 55% completion all season:

Holding is a call that could be called on every play, especially on passing plays. You are correct that if a team is allowed to hold with no flags it will be a long night for the secondary. I don't disagree with you but the game will be played regardless and if you can't pressure the QB it is a problem on the scoreboard!

Yes, he's better because of his running ability but it would be hard to beat Leary's passing performance last night.

I doubt anyone could guy was in a zone most every pass was pinpoint.Almost like Rattler last year had been having a bad year like Leery and then got hot and in a zone vs us. UK had no drops either I’d heard they’ve had drop problems like our receivers this year.

The Hadden excuse is simply another excuse for a defensive secondary and a defensive approach back there that just doesn't work in the SEC against the better teams, the problem is not Hadden (he was embarrassed enough last year, particularly the Orange Bowl, wanted to box in the Florida game this year). The defensive secondary has been a problem for Heupel since day 1, the issues with the existing talent upon arrival was legitimate but addressable over time, but we've played that card too many times, now it's the Hadden excuse, but the secondary has been the weakest link for three years now and it's showing no signs of getting up the necessary SEC level anytime soon.

The Missouri game and to a different extent the Georgia game will be yardsticks on where the secondary is and if we lose both games, perhaps Heupel will take a little different approach to his staff and realize we aren't going to outscore or runaway from many upper tier SEC teams anytime soon, defensive talent is a symptom, poor defensive coordinator, lack of teaching proper technique and deplorable secondary coach are the problem.

If we cant line up and play man defense... its EASY pickins!!! Its HEUPELS job to get better players who can play man in this league. You CANNOT play defense constantly 10-12 yds off the LOS.
