Seems like every announcer I've ever listened to, but especially John Madden, likes to throw in that "A lot of people ask me..." line.

It's as if people are stopping in the streets to yell at Madden daily, "HEY JOHN, WHAT'S UP WITH THAT PENALTY STUFF?"

Doesn't the Vol piece in chess have the choice of moving in different L lines?
