loudest stadiums

the rocky top big house comparison gave me an idea. what do you guys think are some of the loudest stadiums.

in no particular order, i have

tennessee
penn state
ohio state
lsu
florida
texas a&m
maybe oregon not quite sure how loud that is or if that is just overhyped by some people.

not having been to them all, but impressions i get from watching on TV and listening to commentators, watching players shout calls etc....also knowing that the opponents that are playing these teams affect the outcome, i would say:
1. Florida--i know from watching TN, FSU, LSU, etc...cameras shaking, qb's shouting a lot, false starts...
2. Tennessee...it's not like it should be all the time, but you get Bama, FL, GA in that stadium and it is ridiculous. should be like that more often.
3. Penn St. Last year's game against OSU, i was really impressed with how that stadium sounded....and looked.
4. LSU...again depends on the opponent, but there's no shortage of noise.
5. A&M...the 12th man...they PRACTICE cheering for goodness sakes!!!
6. Auburn...very underrated imo...
7. UGA...before the kickoffs and they're all woofing in unison...
8. ARK...also underrated, that's fayetteville, not little rock.
9. Michigan...the design of the big bowl doesn't keep noise in like you'd think with 107,000
10. FSU...when they play UF or Miami there, it's awesome.

i just wanted to bring up a point you said. when there is a big game, or a rival (like 2004 florida) i think neyland is the loudest crowd, but it isn't always like that.

just wanted to say osu is much louder than michigan... just responding to michigan ranked, but not osu.

i do think we have the edge though. they are more obnoxious though...

there is an article in the paper here (in columbus ohio) where it is saying that in a texas paper, the team has asked the fans not to repay the buckeye fans the way they were treated. they buckeyes physically and verbally abused the horns fans leaving the stadium.

Autzen Stadium was purpose-built for on-field volume.

First, check out how close the stands are to the field/sidelines. It was acoustically engineered to project noise from the seats to the field.

Oregon also fills to capacity for every even moderately big game... Which includes about every Pac-10 game. The game vs. rivals Washington and Oregon State are the loudest.

Also, Autzen has the strange reputation, where student section is not the loudest area of the stadium. But rather, the average ticket holders are.

Can only speak to stadiums I've been in:

1. Swamp
2. Tennessee
3. OSU
4. LSU Death Valley
5. UGA

1. Nebraska
2. Notre Dame
3. LSU
4. Florida
5. Tennessee

wow, nebraska!! never heard that but you may be right.


just wondering, anyone at the 2004 florida game. i was just wondering how loud you thought that was compared to other games.

Well at the end of that game, I thought I was literally deaf. Of course I was a mute after that as well with a non-existent voice.

I have a friend that played football for Vandy in the mid-90s (yes, I know--who gets loud for Vandy? Still, it is the best info I've got.)

According to him, the loudest and most intimidating stadium in the conference was Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Of course, they always went to Knoxville over Thanksgiving break for 11:00am games on Senior day when all of the fans had turkey hangovers, so it might not be the best comparison. Also, I'd have to look at the schedule to be sure, but I don't think he ever wen to Auburn.

EDIT: Personally, I have only been to Knoxville, Lexington, Birmingham, and Nashville within the conference. Not surprisingly, there is not a lot of competition in that group, especially considering the shellacking we put on 'Bama in 1994(I think.)

Thanks, I was posting from work and didn't take the time to look it up.

Also, since someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, I have been to 2 games in Tallahassee, although neither was against Miami or Florida, and I was not impressed with the intimidation factor. Annoyance at the 11,000th time they do the chop is just not the same as the ear-drum throbbing roar you get in Neyland. Both stadiums tend to attract beautiful women, however.
