A former Arizona football player has been arrested in connection to a prostitution ring. Mikal Smith, the son of Illinois head coach Lovie Smith, was arrested in Tempe, Arizona on Thursday on multiple charges related to sex trafficking and prostitution, according to multiple reports.
Mikal Smith was taken into police custody and booked into Gilbert Chandler Jail on Thursday morning. He is being held on a $100,000 bond. According to court documents, Smith is facing charges of sex trafficking, pandering, prostitution, money laundering, conspiracy, and the illegal control of an enterprise. His arraignment is slated for September 10.
Smith played briefly at the University of Arizona in 1996, before beginning to work as an assistant coach in the NFL. He spent four seasons with the Chicago Bears (2009-12) serving on his father's staff.
