I am curious about everyone’s thoughts surrounding our coaches at each position in conjunction with the relative low turnover that we have seen on Josh’s staff.

I know there have been some questions at some positions, but it seems to me the cohesiveness and commitment of this staff is allowing us to recruit well at positions we have struggled at, and to build in areas where we have already seen improvements at.

After last year, it seems so much went well and so much is going well in the recruiting realm, I have less regard in my opinion and more confidence in the man at the helm than I ever have other than when Fulmer finally won the big one.

My apologies ahead of time if there are s bunch of threads on this already.

Short of losing coach to USF(?). Stability is good when all pieces are productive as a unit. Coach Hazele(sp) will be watched by many, but we all know who main play caller will be as far as style and substance.

I think the more successful we become, the higher the turnover rate will be. For instance, if our defense improves, Banks might get head coaching offers.

I like the way he goes about hiring analyst type of coaches and uses that as a way to keep continuity. Basically he has a plan and replacements ready if we lose any of our position coaches.

You bring up a good point. Our offense was the shining star last year, and the only person that left was Golesh to the point that @Vol4gzus made. That said, I would have thought an 11-2 team would have lost more coaches.

I guess my post was also trying to solicit opinions around the fact that Huepel didn’t let anyone go, I don’t think. I for one have been about keeping Martinez if we could recruit some solid DBs which we have been able to do. If we can keep performing on O and winning games, he will have more time to prove himself or for Huepel to decide his units just aren’t getting it done regardless of who is back there.

I still wonder if we will do as well this year. Hooker had the it factor to squeeze us out some wins like the Bama and Pitt games. Milton has the skillset, but will he have the mentality to win close games? We shall see. Anyways, getting off topic…

Well, Martinez has been in my crosshairs for a while based on the product he puts on the field. For me, this is his year to present an elite SEC-quality secondary or I’m absolutely done with him. He’s in his third year now coaching our DBs. He has his own players so there should be no excuses if he actually knows how to recruit and coach DBs. Believe it or not, we have 24 DBs listed on our current roster - twenty four. If he can’t find five kids from those 24 who can run with GA and AL receivers and cover them, then he needs to find another place to coach.

That is a lot for sure. Personally, I will give him 2 more years if we show some improvement this year. Hopefully our D and secondary will put even more pressure on offenses more consistently this year and make it more clear, but the secondary has definitely been glaring.

What do you mean things are going well in recruiting. Didn’t you read VN and realize that this staff can’t close?
