Several schools have relief teams in Tuscaloosa. Any word on Tennessee VOLUNTEERING some help? If you know of one please post info. I'll be spending my weekend to help out and would love to show our Bama brothers we've got their back during this terrible time.

I thought it was odd when I read that the Tennesee Volunteers hadn't sent volunteers.

I was down there yesterday. Any help that anyone can provide is desperately needed.

On Saturday I'll be there in orange with 10 cases of water, 10 cases of baby food and 10 cases of ravioli and a shovel and chain saw. I really hope I see a few Vols there.

as far as students go, we've got finals right now and they don't just let you off of tests to help out those in need. If they did, I could almost guarantee that 90% of the University would be down there. Actually that's a really good idea. UT get it going. Let us off of finals and we'll send 20,000+ down to help out Alabama

No offense, bit its pretty stupid to give a crap about what football team you cheer for when lives and livelihoods have been lost. I spent last weekend in north Alabama and southeast Tennessee cutting and hauling trees and passing out generators and not once did a single person ask what team I liked.

People helping people, its really that simple.

Edit. I did ask one lady in Scotsboro AL, who was wearing an Ohio State shirt, if she was from Ohio and she replied, "no, never even been there. I got this shirt from a neighbor. It was clean and it fit so I put it on."

I don't think his grievance had anything to do with cheering for a football team, but rather with UT not sending any Volunteers.

I've seen several posts in my Facebook feed of UT fans giving time and location instructions to meet up and go down to help. I think there has been a large response, but in true volunteer fashion its been quiet and without a lot of oversight from some other entity.

I'd love to have gone down with the Big Orange Army to help clean up Tuscaloosa, but wasn't authorized for the days off.(

I know there are several groups of UT students going to Alabama this weekend. There might not be a publicized effort by the University, but there are plenty of people associated with the University that are helping out.

Tell that to the Bama fan that when the Auburn football team showed up to help he said "I never thought I would say this but War Damn Eagle".

BTW when you say no offense and then call someone stupid...is in itself stupid.

My parents have not been able to go to Alabama, but I know they have already sent several items through a group from my hometown that is traveling back and forth to Alabama. I am sure the University will take a more active role after finals are finished. There is still much work to be done down there. There will still be work to do a year from now.

Tuscaloosa got a lot of the publicity from the storm but there was significant damage to Cleveland TN and Northern GA also. I imagine Tennesseans are probably helping there as they are closer to home.

This is true. It really doesn't matter where any individual decides to help, only that they decide to do so.
