Did the LSU last minute defense remind us Vol fans of 3rd and Chavis? Can't believe Chief let off the pressure, but then against I used to say that when he was at UT as well.

Actually, he got beat on a screen pass while bringing a blitz. This, too, looked very familiar. If the outside rusher had just bumped the back, the play would've blown up.

(This is for the OP.)

We are the last fan base that needs to throw rocks at someone else's defense.... They play prevent for the last minute and a half. We play that style for the full 60 min

I thought exactly the same thing. Do something that works, then stop doing it when it matters most...BRILLIANT!

Still hating on Chavis I see. Would love to have the chief here coaching our defense.

They got caught on a blitz for the TD play, but I knew they'd bring the heat finally after 2 easy passes. The cushion on the WR's on the start of the final drive opened it all up for easy 1st downs and I knew Bama would at least tie the game. Been there and seen that too many times.

LSU lost because Miles keep rolling the dice on special teams plays. He finally had the QB to beat Bama if he played it close to the vest.

Honestly, it was classic Chavis. Be passive (allow short passes) (mustang package)until they get inside your 30, then blitz to try to stop them, the Bama OC had the perfect play call on. Everyone knew Chavis was going to blitz, its what he does.

That being said, i would take the Chief back in a second.

Bama stayed in the game because their D bent but didn't quite fully break plus LSU played overly aggressive at times and the right play call was used 3-4 times ie screens. I have no problem overall with how the game was called, I thought the fake FG was kind of stupid but the fake kickoff was brilliant, just not quite executed right. The loss was actually in the first half when LSU failed to get points or FGs instead of TDs. Other than that I thought it was a near dominating performance that just wasn't meant to be.

I thought the coaches and the team were well prepared, played hard, etc.

Actually after a loss like that you would think fans would be all up arms, most liked the performance. With the amount of guys we have lost this year that should have been playing, that was one hellva game by a bunch of very young and green players.
