An LSU buddy said they are installing Purple Field Turf in Tiger Stadium. I thought it was some April Fools gag, but he says it's apparently for real.

IMO it was fun when Boise St first did it, but the new has worn off...for me at least.

I LOVE all things UT, but I'd hope that Neon Orange Turf never covers Shields Watkins field. What would some of you think?

Sorry, I can't get the photo to load on moblie.

Hopefully the photo will load...if not maybe someone more tech savvy than myself can find it.

It didn't seem like something LSU would do to me either. He just said from what he had heard, it was legitimate, and was supposed to be ready for 2015 season opener. With him being an avid Tiger fan, I took him at his word lol.

My first thought was " well, TN doesn't play in Tiger Stadium very often, so I won't have to look at it".

This thread comes up every year. The article linked is priceless:

With the purple turf, the only place that compares is the Roman Coliseum, and to my knowledge, that doesn't even exist anymore."

The turf will be installed by Turfus and Sons, a subsidiary of Vandalay Industries, which is the largest producer of the rubber material found underneath dangerous playground equipment.

"Partnering with LSU just makes sense," said Art Vandalay, the President and CEO of Vandalay Industries said. "We've been speaking on the virtues of colored turf for years at various conventions and we finally have the perfect partner in LSU. The field is going to be amazing. Although we have never done a project with our turf on anything more than municipal parks, we are confident that 'Tiger Turf' is going to be a staple of all collegiate athletic fields. The possibilities are endless. I see a future where grass will cease to exist."

Yeah, apparently they just resurrected the gag from 2010. I think I'll let my LSU buddy stew in it for a while, he can find the truth for himself.

I have no objection if a Mod wants to do away with this thread, so that my first one started won't have to suffer a long painful death LOL.

Sorry folks...

I wish the NCAA would require all artificial turf to be green between the endzones. I find the blue and red fields hideous.

The NCAA does have a rule that prohibits colored turf. Boise State and whoever has the red turf were grandfathered in.

Art Vandalay moved on to importing and exporting IIRC.

Actually no it doesn't. It was a proposed rule in 2013 but it didn't pass. As mentioned Eastern Michigan put in a gray field last season and Coastal Carolina just put in a teal field.

Conferences can have the rule though, and I wouldn't doubt the SEC would tell any school wanting a colored field that it's not happening.

For some reason, I thought the rule had passed. I guess I was mistaken. I didn't know about the Eastern Michigan or Coastal Carolina fields either. Gray or teal turf would be a little easier on the eyes than Boise State's field. It's hard to watch a team wearing all blue on a blue field.

Well, this.would look like a.perpetually snow covered field with Orange accents. It could be worse, I suppose.

I went to LSU and lived in Baton Rouge for 5 years and still don't get the whole corn dog thing. The tailgating area smells like an amalgamation of gumbo, jambalaya and Lake Pontchartrain. There's plenty to make fun of down there, but corn dogs? Sounds like something a klansmen came up with in his trailer near Oxford.
